Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Karina Smirnoff is making a bold new career move. She is posing for Playboy Magazine. Her spread will run in May and owner Hugh Hefner promises that fans will not be disappointed. He tweeted, “The May issue of Playboy is unforgettable with Dancing with the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff on the cover and nude inside.”
Hefner spoke with People Magazine and revealed his reasoning in selecting Karina for his magazine. “I think it’s obvious. She has a very good following from the show and the pictorial is unforgettable.” Hefner said of the spread in which she wears little more than a few red ribbons, “It’s a beautiful shoot and I’ve very proud of it.”
The pictorial also incorporates Karina’s dancing background. The producers at Dancing with the Stars were aware of Karina’s decision to pose for the magazine and did not stand her way. They still paired her up with one of the top contenders this season, Ralph Macchio. Karina is the first professional dancer from the show to pose for Playboy, although previous stars from various seasons have posed for the magazine, including Kendra Wilkinson from the current season and host Brooke Burke.
Why did Karina decide to pose for Playboy? She told People Magazine, “I’m fearless and love the adrenaline rush. Sexy is the confident energy a person produces. Sexy is the comfortable feeling of being who you are.” Coincidentally, the spread is hitting the general public around the same time as the season finale of Dancing with the Stars.
