Many fans were predicting the color of the merged tribal buff on Survivor: Redemption Island would be a shade of red. Those predictions couldn’t have been more wrong. When Ometepe’s orange and Zapatera’s purple were retired last week as the Murlonio tribe was born, the remaining castaways were adorned with fresh black buffs making it the most-duplicated merged color in Survivor history.
The first time a buff was black arrived during season seven on Survivor: Pearl Islands when Drake and Morgan became Balboa. Black buffs didn’t return again until season 12 on Survivor: Panama — Exile Island for the Gitanos tribe. The next season, Survivor: Cook Islands, kept the trend of black buffs in motion for the Aitutonga tribe. Then for one season, we caught a break from black buffs when purple arrived on Survivor: Fiji before the color returned for Survivor: China’s Hae Da Fung tribe. The next four editions of Survivor alternated with varying shades of green and blue before black buffs returned for the merged group on Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains known as the Yin Yang tribe (see below).
If you’re a collector, you can grab the Murlonio black buff now at CBSStore.com for $22 before shipping costs and tax are tacked on.
