Whether you think Donald Trump‘s recent talk about running for President of the United States in 2012 is a publicity stunt or not, one thing we do know for certain is that his potential bid is already affecting his NBC reality show, Celebrity Apprentice. How?
Real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump is considering running for President against Barack Obama as a Republican in 2012, but while he mulls over his political future, the future of Celebrity Apprentice is up in the air.
The Donald has said that on Friday (April 15) he informed NBC that he could not commit to a three-year contract extension on the hit show until he’s made his decision.
Previous reports indicated that Trump might give the date and time of a press conference where he would make a formal announcement about his candidacy on the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice, which airs live in May.
So why make an announcement about the time and place he’s going to make an announcement?!
If Donald Trump were to announce his decision to be a Republican candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 elections on the show, NBC could be in violation of equal time laws, which state that networks must give equal opportunities to all candidates; meaning that if Trump used airtime for political purposes, the network would have to give every other presidential candidate the same amount of airtime that he received. OR, Trump’s use of Celebrity Apprentice for his presidential candidacy could be considered a de facto donation from NBC.
Tied in the polls with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as Republican voters’ top pick for a Presidential candidate, Trump says that if he doesn’t win the Republican nomination, he will “probably” run as an Independent.
What do you think RTVMers? Is Donald Trump seriously considering a run for President in the 2012 elections, or is this a publicity stunt?
