America’s Next Top Model: Jaclyn’s Parting Words

April 17, 2011 10:00 AM by Allyson Wells

Tyra Banks and the other judges on America’s Next Top Model eliminated America’s next sweetheart, Jaclyn, from the competition this week.  Jaclyn was the innocent girl in the bunch, but showed tremendous range, especially with her wild joker picture.  Jaclyn is now revealing how all of the girls really got along behind the scenes, why she did not do well doing the go-sees, and if she plans on modeling in the future.

Question: How did you feel going into the panel?

Jaclyn: I had a feeling that I was going to be at least in the bottom two or sent packing just because of the outcome of my go-sees – they didn’t go too well – and with the photoshoot, the judges weren’t very happy about my photo. But you know, I had so much fun and I have no regrets. Except not knowing how to read a map very well! That was the only thing holding me back! Other than that, it was an amazing opportunity.

Question: Was the map the sole reason for your go-sees downfall?

Jaclyn: Well, yes! They told us we’d have this big map and we’d be telling a driver – and mine ended up being really cute which was already intimidating – where to go in a Smart car. I’m never in a car that little! In Texas I drive a truck; everything is bigger here! Being in a little car like that in Los Angeles was kind of freaking me out, and I had to navigate for both of us where to go and it was hectic. I was freaking out inside! I managed to make it to two and I booked two and I’m proud of myself for doing that.

Question: One of the go-sees said that you were so sweet you nearly gave her tooth-ache… Do you think you’re too sweet for the modeling industry?

Jaclyn: It’s funny because my dad is a dentist! When she said that, my dad said, ‘Well, you should have told her to come see me!’ It was funny. I’m just a nice person because of how my parents raised me. I think everyone deserves you to be nice to them. Someone could be having a bad day and I’m nice to them and that brightens their day up. When it comes down to business, I’m sweet and I handle myself well, and I think that I’d be a great person to work with in the industry because I get along with so many people. Just because I am sweet does not mean that I can’t bring it on set because I can, obviously, from my joker picture. That was a little crazy! I think my personality gives me an upper hand on some girls because you want to have a model you can talk to on set and you want to enjoy the time you are shooting them.

Question: Were you surprised to be sent home after Molly’s complaints during the photoshoot and feedback from the go-sees?

Jaclyn: Molly is such an awesome competitor and she has so much potential. I knew when we were in the bottom two that it would be me. She has so much experience and all her photos are to die for. That’s alright though, because I’m my own person and I will take everything I’ve learned and put it to good use in the real world of modeling. Molly is an excellent model and she deserves it just as much as I do.

Question: There’s been so much drama around Alexandria this season. How did you manage to avoid it?

Jaclyn: You know, 14 girls living together under the pressure of competition, there’s bound to be a couple tuff. It’s such an awesome experience, but sometimes it gets a little out of hand. I think that the Lord has given us each and every day better, and I try to stay out of the way of that kind of stuff.

Question: Having a bad attitude has landed so many people in the bottom this competition — Alexandria, Molly, and Brittani — but they seem to survive. Did you ever feel like being good-natured was a disadvantage in the competition?

Jaclyn: The other girls are beautiful, and they have so much experience. They sent me home because I didn’t get to the go-sees and my picture wasn’t up to their expectations. I have no regrets other than not reading a map. I’m proud of myself.

Question: In the last episode, it seemed like the photo shoot in the garbage dump was pretty grueling. What was it actually like to spend that much time in a gown waist-deep in trash?

Jaclyn: Well, for one thing, whenever I go to the beach with my family, I always want to feed the seagulls. But those seagulls? They are dirty birds, and I never want to see them again, It was just the smelliest, nastiest place we’ve ever been.

Question: What modeling plans do you have for the future?

Jaclyn: I’m in Texas right now for a couple of weeks and then I’m going to go to New York City and Los Angeles for a couple of weeks. I’m going to take my portfolio from Top Model and hit every single agency’s open call, and just go in there and be myself and wow them with my personality and who my parents raised me to be. I will show them what I have and that I can be versatile and my photos do look different from who I am in person. Hopefully somebody will believe in me and want to give me an opportunity, and I’ll be so thankful when they do. I’m just looking forward to being back in the modeling industry and maybe getting into some acting and commercials and show everyone that nice girls can finish first too.

Question: Who do you want to win the competition?

Jaclyn: Well, honestly, going through this competition, I know what it’s like to want something so badly and I share that with the five girls left. There is Kasia, who is a great role model and I looked up to her like a mother or an older sister. She was always there for me to bring me up when I was down or listen to my problems. I just love her and can’t wait to see her again. Brittani and Molly are so high fashion and have such a distinct look and are both amazing. Alexandria might come across as mean or something like that, but honestly, deep down inside she is an awesome girl and deserves it just as much as the other girls. And Hannah! We became best friends. We both live in Texas and I love that girl; she is so deserving as well. I can honestly see any of the girls winning but I have a feeling it will be Brittani or Molly.
