Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the dancers performed a star-spangled extravaganza in their salute to America. Ralph Macchio misfired, while Romeo and Chris Jericho became contenders. The battle for the ballroom is heating up, but who will be forced to fall out?
Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke welcome the crowd and announce that Toby Keith will be performing and saluting the America dream. Footage of Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Hines Ward and Kym Johnson is shown again. Kirstie laughs afterwards that she got to hooch it up and club dance. Hines is shown saying he hopes that he gets 8′s, and is thrilled to get all 9′s. He then tells Kym he almost kissed her on the dance floor. Brooke reveals that Hines and Kym are safe, which means that Kirstie and Maks are in jeopardy. Len asks for Romeo and Chelsie to perform their breakthrough foxtrot again for the encore.
Toby Keith sings his record breaking hit, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” Maybe Toby can give Ralph pointers for how to get used to wearing a cowboy hat. Lacey and Maks perform along to the tune. I love Lacey’s boots and Maks in a cowboy hat! The Dancing with the Stars Troupe also performs with the tune. The choreography for this dance is really fun and a nice departure from the traditional ballroom dances.
Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas, Romeo and Chelsie Hightower and Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke wait backstage with Brooke. Chelsea hopes to make it through to guilty pleasures week. Romeo jokes he is going to take down Hines. Chris seems relaxed, even though he admits you never know what to expect. Backstage footage from the previous night is shown. Romeo hopes to make it through to the next week to get a 10. Chelsea continues to shake her bum for Len. Back on the dance floor, the first couple revealed to be safe is Chelsea and Mark. Romeo and Chelsie are the second couple to be safe. Tom tells Chris and Cheryl that they are still in jeopardy.
A segment showing disgruntled former castoffs is shown. Mike Catherwood leads the segment called “Dancing with the Stars” exposed. The video shows Hines Ward breaking wind in rehearsals. Next, Chelsie’s stuffed bra falls out of her top. Kirstie asks Maks if he is cocky in all situations and he claims that he is not but strikes a pose. He then says he is like a stick that was dipped in a boiling pot of sex. The judges are then shown trying to annoy Len during a break, causing him to use profanity.
The Macys Stars of Dance perform a number titled “The American Dream.” They dance around a mock subway entry before going to a diner to dance on the barstools. The same choreographer has also put together dances for Britney Spears, Madonna and the Step Up Series. You can definitely see some of their moves in this dance.
The three couples that scored the lowest of the night are up next: Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff, Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel and Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin. Backstage with Brooke, Kendra feels like she is finally starting to have fun and Louis is very proud. Ralph feels like their number was challenging, but was proud of their effort. Their backstage footage of their reactions to the judges is shown. Kendra apologizes to Dmitry for messing up. Ralph jokes that he will bring more sex if Len brings the right scores. Kendra and Carrie Ann are shown making up. The three couples go to the floor to learn their fate. Tom tells Ralph and Karina they are safe. Kendra and Louis are relieved to learn they are also safe. A bummed Petra and Dmitry learn they are in jeopardy.
Toby Keith performs again and sings his song “American Soldier.” It is a very patriotic song about the sacrifice of our armed forces. I like the slide guitar in this song. Toby salutes the crowd at the end of the song. Tom announces that Toby will be leaving tonight on his ninth USO Tour. Tom then reveals that Pia Toscano will be singing next week with a dance performed by her friend Mark Ballas.
The judges reveal what the remaining contestants need to do to make it to the finals. Len thinks that Kendra’s big challenge is mental and she lacks confidence. They point out that Petra is not very good at transitioning her poses. Carrie Ann wants Hines to take more risks. They want Chris to do more than go through the motions. Chelsea needs to blend the risks with tradition. Bruno points out that Ralph is a good actor, but needs to overcome his jerky movements. Carrie Ann wants Kirstie to work on her stamina. The judges love Romeo’s heat, but think he needs refinement.
The three couples in jeopardy return to the stage: Kirstie and Maks, Petra and Dmitry and Cheryl and Chris. Tom reveals that Kirstie and Maks are safe. Len is grumpy because neither of the couples deserve to go home. Tom announces that Petra and Dmitry are eliminated. Brooke tells Petra she is one of the loveliest stars they have had. Petra says she had such a life-changing journey and she made wonderful friends and raised money for charity. Tom shows a video of Petra’s transformation. Dmitry is so proud of how far Petra has come. A teary Petra takes a final dance. I will miss Petra’s positive attitude and sunny disposition. However, I didn’t think she was the best dancer of the remaining bunch and would have gone home sooner than later. Although, I am very surprised Kendra was not in the bottom. What did you think? Do you think Petra deserved to go home? Feel free to share your opinions below!
