The Real Housewives of New York City’s Sonja Morgan Says She Was “A Good Friend” For Throwing Alex McCord Out

April 19, 2011 03:30 PM by Shayla Perry

For those of you who thought that Sonja Morgan was out of line for kicking her Real Housewives of New York City co-star, Alex McCord, out of her house on last week’s episode of the Bravo reality show, you couldn’t be more wrong. According to Sonja, she was simply being “a good friend” to Alex!

Marriage equality is already a hot-button issue in the U.S., but after the drama that took place on last week’s episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, it just got a lot hotter!

During the episode, which aired April 14th, Sonja Morgan, Alex McCord, and a few of the other Housewives attended the Marriage Equality March in Brooklyn, for which Sonja was asked to serve as Grand Marshal. And that’s about the end of what we know for sure.

At the march, Alex and her husband, Simon, were told that they were no longer going to be speaking at the event, because as part of Sonja Morgan’s agreement, no one else from the show was supposed to speak except for her.

The three bickered (in public) for what seemed like FOREVER, with Alex telling Sonja that she was making the event about her and not marriage equality.

The pinnacle, however, was at Sonja Morgan’s art party, which was held at her house. After taking Alex aside to tell her that she was over everything that happened at the Marriage Equality March, but that she didn’t appreciate Simon yelling in her ear, Sonja refused to let McCord defend herself. Alex, being super persistent, followed Sonja through the house trying to get her point across, until finally, Morgan told her to get out of her house.

Yes, she yelled at Alex and threw her out in front of all of the guests at the party, and yes, Sonja was the one that started the whole conversation to begin with, but as she tells HollywoodLife.com, “I threw her out like a good friend would – because she was going to embarrass herself.”

Sonja Morgan goes on to say that, unlike the other cast members that were at the event, Alex McCord and her husband “tried to shimmy their way into” the Marriage Equality March.

“Alex, from Ramona [Singer's]  rooftop party to the wedding in the Hamptons, had her knickers in a twist about this thing,” says Sonja. “I don’t know why she made it all about me. It was just my day to speak. I felt special. In my world, it was my day. Obviously when you go to a charity, it’s not about you – everybody knows that.”

Sonja Morgan may think that she and Alex are BFF’s again, but McCord sees things differently, saying , “This is certainly a big hurdle,” and that “something has to happen” to mend their relationship.

It did seem like Alex should have planned a more private time to discuss this issue but she seems to go big guns in inappropriate places with her newfound voice. But, she was not wrong for feeling played by Sonia.

Sonia seemed like she did outplay ALL her coworkers for the “title” spot in a bigger issue than her at this event. She COULD have shared the podium and heard Alex plead with her to speak up for them and let them speak, but was WAY TOO concerned about herself that day to care. That did seem vicious to me, and extremely competitive. Sonia plain refused to share the spotlight because she already decided she woudn’t share the podium with these women a long time ago and thinks that is a good excuse? All it says to me is watch out for her if she’s your friend.

Sonja Morgan was horrifying! Alex went in completely innocent feeling a little awkward. Sonja insulted her to her face about her husband and Alex just defended herself. Yes she let it get too heated and should have just let it go. But Sonja Morgan is a self centered sociopath, and she treated Alex terribly. She is just an awful person!!
