This week on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, a woman with a huge heart, Beverly Hill, in Virginia Beach, Virginia and her family are helped out by the team and ABC. The Hill-Burdette family have fostered over 20 children and adopted five girls. They now reach out to the homeless in their community as well, despite their own home suffering from issues. Read on for the highlights from this build…
Fred Burdette, who fell in love with Beverly Hill and her girls, explains that their family is happy, but their home simply isn’t big enough for eight people. Ty Pennington and his design team head to surprise the family at church. The entire family cries when they burst in to make the announcement. They all get on the bus to visit the Hill-Burdette home.
When they all cram into the one tiny restroom, Xzibit muses that if he were Fred, he would build an outhouse. Ty takes a look at some of the faulty construction, and then checks out the small kitchen where Beverly not only cooks for the family, but makes meals for up to 75 homeless people. Meanwhile, Xzibit takes down the details of what the teenage girls like for their rooms. Ed chats with the other three girls.
The family meets the builders and volunteers before being sent on vacation to Beverly Hills, California. Since Fred is a long-haul trucker, Ty uses that theme in the demolition of the old house. Numerous rigs roll in, and Ty contacts the family on Rodeo Drive to watch the demo. The trucks go right through the middle of the house which the kids deem to be ‘cool’.
As the new house is constructed, Ty turns the design team’s attention to making Beverly a new nail salon in the home. Paige takes off for Beverly Hills to get some inspiration, and while she’s there, she treats the family to salon treatments and chats with Beverly about her preferences.
Back in Virginia, Ty and Xzibit visit a barbershop and get advice about making the ultimate man bathroom for Fred. Ty works on a headboard in a honeycomb pattern for Beverly – the queen bee.
To honor Beverly’s work to feed the homeless, the design team runs a food drive and contacts the family from Old Dominion University where they announce that they have amassed loads of food, and received a donation of $50,000 from CVS Pharmacy for the cause.
Soon the house is finished and it’s time for the Hill-Burdette family to come home. Everyone shouts for the bus to be moved and the girls bound around with excitement at the sight of the new house. They thank the builders from Trademark Construction and then get to go inside.
They marvel at the space and the size of the new kitchen. Ty comes in and Beverly tells him the homeless are gonna be happy! The girls check out their new rooms and are suitably impressed. Xzibit shows off the mini dance studio he put in. Nearby, Beverly and Fred exclaim over their master bedroom and Fred’s man bathroom complete with barber chair. It’s connected to Beverly’s washroom by a clear shower. Ty explains about the honeycomb pattern he incorporated into the room.
Finally, Beverly gets to see her ‘Beverly Hills Nail Salon’. She loves it, saying the more money she makes the more she can spend on giving back.
Paige announces that CVS Pharmacy has given them the ultimate pantry to help them help the homeless. It not only has food, but toiletries, clothes, and sleeping bags. Beverly marvels at the love and warmth that went into the building of the house. Ty welcomes them home.
