The Amazing Race: The Cowboys Aim To Escape Last Place Again In Switzerland

April 24, 2011 06:17 PM by Allyson Wells

On The Amazing Race, six teams still remain after a non-elimination leg in Austria.  The cowboys climbed out of last place again.  Gary and Mallory came in last, but were relieved to learn they caught a break.  However, they face a speed bump and must work extra hard to stay in the race.  Who will be eliminated when the racers travel to Switzerland?

In the stunning city of Salzburg, the racers depart from the Villa Von Trapp.  Zev and Justin depart first.  They learn they must make their way to Liechtenstein.  Once they cross the border, they will find their next clue.  Zev and Justin feel very confident, but Zev wants to pull some more weight.  Flight Time and Big Easy depart next and note that the cowboys always find a way to win.  Kent and Vyxsin depart next and aim to be positive after fighting so much in Austria.  Kisha and Jen depart next, and Kisha plans to run 100% even though she doesn’t feel so great.  The cowboys reveal that no one has buddied up with them on the race and if they get U-turned, it could be their last leg.  Gary and Mallory depart last.  They remark that they have been awake 36 hours, but the view is too pretty to sleep through.

Once off the train, the cowboys are the first to depart in their taxi.  Gary and Mallory’s cab driver uses GPS and doesn’t really know where he is going.  Gary sees that everyone has passed them.  Zev and Justin reach the roadblock clue first.  Using a motorized bicycle, the racers must measure the entire length of Lichtenstein and present the correct answer to skier Marco Bruchel.  If incorrect, they will have to start over.  Jet laughs that he feels like dumb and dumber.  Gary and Mallory finally arrive and must put together the correct gas mixture to power up their bike for the speed bump penalty.  They quickly figure it out, but Gary has a lot of ground to make up to catch the other racers that have already started the road block.  Both Jet and Flight Time get lost.  Zev passes a confused Vyxsin trying to read her map.  Gary runs into Jet and partners up with him for a little while, but Jet leaves him.  Jen runs into Zev and offers to help him.  Zev gets the mileage correct and gives Jen the correct answer.  They both proceed back to the castle.  Jet arrives next, but has the incorrect answer and has to start over.  He runs into Flight Time and tells him he has to go back.

At the Castle, Zev and Jen are relieved to see their partners.  They learn they must travel to Zermatt, Switzerland, located at the base of the famous Matterhorn.  Flight Time passes them and Zev gives him the correct answer.  Flight Time then sees Gary and tells him the correct answer.  They both get approved to move ahead.  Vyxsin arrives right after them with the correct answer.  Jet gets the correct answer, but knows he is the last one left and is angry for messing up so bad.  The other racers believe the resourceful cowboys can catch up to them.

In Switzerland, the racers learn their detour.  They can choose between cheese or wheeze.  In cheese, they must share a heaping pot of fondue.  In wheeze, the teams travel on foot and deliver twenty pieces of luggage to different hotels.  Zev and Justin had trouble on the last food challenge in Austria, but they are hungry and decide to do cheese.  Kisha and Jen also choose cheese.  Kisha’s stomach starts to hurt her, so they decide to leave and do wheeze.  Zev and Justin stay and try to finish, and Zev jokes that he is not fond of fondue.  They both belch constantly and try to hold down their food.  Justin eventually leaves to throw up.  The goths choose to move luggage.  While they are carrying their luggage, Kent begins to whine about his bag and then Vyxsin hitting his foot.  She orders him to get it together and quit being a baby.  Flight Time and Big Easy also do the luggage challenge and easily load it all up.  Gary and Mallory get a slow start on the luggage and leave last.  The cowboys arrive hot on everyone’s heels and choose to move luggage.  After Kent and Vysxin deliver their luggage, she pulls him in their carrier.  Flight Time and Big Easy make a mistake when they lose two of their delivery tickets.  They have to go back and worry the cowboys will catch them.

The teams head for the train station and learn that a double U-turn awaits them.  Zev and Justin make it there first and choose not to use it.  They then head to the Moos Restaurant, which is the Pit Stop for the race.  Kisha and Jen arrive second, and also choose not to U-turn anyone.  Zev and Justin arrive at the Pit Stop first, and win their fourth first place finish.  Phil informs them that they have won a trip for two to Curacao.  Justin jokes that he might throw up on Phil.  Kisha and Jen are pumped to be in second place.  Kent and Vyxsin can’t U-turn anyone, since they already used theirs in a previous leg.  Gary and Mallory also choose not to U-turn anyone.  Mallory notes that she doesn’t want to see the Cowboys or Globetrotters eliminated.  Kent and Vyxsin arrive at the Pit Stop third.  When Gary and Mallory arrive fourth, Phil tells Mallory she makes him laugh.  Flight Time and Big Easy arrive at the U-turn box and hate to U-turn the cowboys, but know they have to in order to stay in the race.  The cowboys are annoyed when they learn they have to go back and eat cheese.  At the pit stop, flight Time and Big Easy tell Phil they hated to U-turn the cowboys.  The cowboys finish their cheese and toast to the Amazing Race.  They then head to the pit stop and know they are in last place.  Phil confirms they are eliminated.  Jet claims it is his fault, but Cord says they are a team and he’ll stick with him till the end.  They both are both thrilled that they were able to travel all over the world together.

What a load of crap. The cowboys played by the rules and what did it get them—elimination. I watch rarely but my wife wanted me to watch this evening—it wont happen again.

This in no longer a contest of performance but a popularity contest.
You’re not from “The City”, yu’all from the heartland, we will join together, we will cheat, we will send you back where you belong. If your show wants to maintain it’s integrity, you really must forbid rewarding those who do not complete the problem on their own initiative.

I was really sorry to see the Cowboys go, too. I thought they were positive in their parting words and made the most of their experience.

I was so disappointed that the Cowboys were eliminated because the other teams cheated to give the mileage out to others. That just send the wrong message out to the young people of the world that cheating/lying is alright to make sure someone doesn’t have the same opportunity to compete.
That is the same thing that happened to them in their first race. The team that crowded in front of them and that action was condoned.

A lot of people will not be watching that program any more.

The Cowboys were the winners over all as their actions and words in handling the situations were very honorable. I hope the rest have a little twinge of conscience but I am sure they won’t.

Worst night of the Race yet. Loved the cowboys-always upbeat, never down on each other, a pleasure to watch. Only 2 teams really got the 22 KM on their own. The others copied. Don’t really care which of the remaining teams (who were scared to compete fairly with the cowboys) wins.

I was really amazed that cheating was allowed on a program I really love. I have watched AR since it arrived in the US. What an unfair advantage the other teams had. They passed the information re the mileage on to each other except the Cowboys. The other teams were very quiet at the end of the program regarding this transgression. They talk about everything else but not a word about information passing. This did not turn out to be a challenge except for the cowboys. Thought that was the whole idea of AR. What a shame and what a cheat. The Cowboys played fair but the other teams did not. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Phil, you should be ashamed of yourself.

So very disappointed that the other teams were allowed to cheat. The Cowboys played a stellar race and ALWAYS by the rules. We are very disappointed in the Amazing Race! They should be ashamed to have let such cheating happen and it now shows that they have another couple that they want to win. Shame!

My family and I were sickened by the Cowboys’ loss. We really don’t care to watch the end with teams we don’t admire participating. The Cowboys were real gentlemen; honest, upbeat, courteous, and an example of how siblings should treat each other and others as well. Is cheating the name of the Amazing Race game? We thought not, but we were mistaken. I guess we were silly to watch reality TV.
