So how do you improve upon a show featuring musical icons like Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine mentoring the up and coming talent of tomorrow? Add more stars!
Yesterday (April 29), NBC announced that for the next phase of the hit singing competition, the celebrity coaches will be calling upon some “industry insiders” to assist them in preparing the eight members of their teams to go head-to-head.
Grammy-winning artist and mentor, Christina Aguilera has chosen Australian singer/songwriter Sia; Adam Levine will be working with Maroon 5 music director, Blackstone; Cee Lo Green is teaming up with R&B singer Monica; and Blake Shelton is bringing along country music legend Reba McEntire.
In the “Battles” phase of The Voice, the eight members of each mentors’ team will compete against one of their own teammates. The coaches are then responsible for eliminating their team members, going from 8 to 4 singers.
The announcement of the addition of “industry insiders” comes on the heels of the show’s stellar premiere, which netted 11.8 million viewers for the network; the highest rated season premiere since Undercover Boss‘ debut after the 2010 Superbowl.
The next episode of The Voice airs Tuesday, May 3 at 9|8c on NBC. Starting May 10, the show will move to its regular timeslot of 10|9c.
