The Voice: Day 2 of Blind Auditions!

May 03, 2011 08:26 PM by Shayla Perry

It’s the second round of Blind Auditions on NBC‘s hit singing competition, The Voice! Who will the coaches select to complete their teams? Find out here! PLUS, The Voice is moving to a new time starting Tuesday, May 10th! Keep reading for all the details.

This week, in the second round of Blind Auditions, the four coaches – Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, and Christina Aguilera - will choose the final five members of their teams, who will then go on to compete against one another in the Battle phase, facing elimination.

Here’s how the teams are shaping up so far:

Team Adam: Jeff Jenkins, Rebecca Loebe, Javier Colon

Team Blake: Patrick Thomas, Elenowen, Xenia

Team Cee Lo: Vicci Martinez, Kelsey Rey, Tje Austin

Team Christina: Tarralyn Ramsey, Frenchie Davis, Beverly McClellan

Who will be added next?

First up is Cherie Oakley, a background singer and  songwriter from Nashville who’s career highlights include a song that she wrote for the legendary Reba McEntire! Tonight, Cherie is doing something a little gutsy– she’s performing “Gunpowder and Lead” by country singer Miranda Lambert…Blake Shelton’s fiance!

Blake is rocking to the beat throughout the performance, but it’s Christina Aguilera that ends up being the only coach that selects her, so it’s Team Christina for Cherie!

Next is 19-year-old med student, Devon Barley, who’s trying to convince his parents that he has a future in the industry. Singing “I’m Yours,” after almost the entire song, finally, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine both turn their chairs around, with Christina Aguilera explaining that she felt he was a better match for Adam. The crowd is urging Devon to go with team Cee Lo, but after Adam Levine tells him that he thinks he would work well with him, he chooses the Maroon 5 singer.

Florida’s Josh Hand, 29, takes the stage next, singing a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.” Unfortunately, no one selects Josh, making him the first contestant to be sent home this week.

A young 16-year-old Raquel Castro tries to impress the coaches with “Keep Bleeding” by Leona Lewis. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine urge Christina Aguilera to press her button, and finally she does, which makes Raquel’s dreams come true, since she’s a BIG fan.

Up next is 23-year-old Emily Valentine from Hollywood, California performing Pink’s “Sober.” Surprisingly, Blake Shelton is first push his button, followed by Cee Lo Green. Green tries to sweeten his offer by dropping the name of a close friend of his — Pink — and complimenting Emily’s tattoos, which he also says he’d like to check out sometime. Blake loves the rasp in her voice, but it’s Cee Lo that she ultimately chooses.

As the competition moves forward (you didn’t think they were gonna let us hear everyone’s song in its entirety, did you?), Cee Lo also picks up Niki Dawson, with Blake Shelton adding Sara Oromchi to his team.

Minnesota’s Tim Mahoney, 39, takes to the stage next; after many years  of rejection in the music biz, hoping to make a breakthrough with “Bring It On Home To Me.” Adam Levine immediately turns his chair around, but looks a little disappointed when he sees Tim. Apparently, he was expecting a woman, which he was hoping to add to his team, but nonetheless thinks that he will be able to work well with him, and Blake Shelton agrees.

The next artist is 18-year-old Julia Eason singing “Mercy.” Cee Lo Green is first to turn around, with Christina Aguilera instantly following him. Both of them feel that they’d be perfect for the talented singer, but it’s Christina Aguilera that wins this one. Sorry Cee Lo!

Angela Wolff – an admitted Blake Shelton super fan – is next and is also attempting a Miranda Lambert song, “The House That Built Me.” Will she be able to impress Shelton? Once again, Blake doesn’t push his button, and neither does anyone else, but Adam assures Angela that if he had more spots available on his team, he would’ve chosen her.

Now it’s 20-year-old Tyler Robinson, singing Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister,” and coming out to his father for the first time on national TV. Surprise Dad! His father may not be too pleased, but Blake Shelton is loving Tyler, and adds him to his team!

Coming close to the last spots on each coach’s teams, a bold Nakia attempts Cee Lo’s “Forget You.” Cee Lo Green turns his chair around, followed by Blake Shelton, who’s just as impressed with Nakia’s ability to ignite the crowd as he is with his singing ability. It’s a tough decision, but Nakia sides with Cee Lo.

But no worries, Blake Shelton manages to nab a soulful Serabee, while Adam Levine picks up Casey Desmond, and Christina Aguilera adds her first male team member, Justin Grennan.

After delivering some disappointing news to quite a few hopefuls trying to land spots on their teams, the coaches find themselves with a bit of a problem — they need more team members than there are contestants remaining in the competition!

The next artist is Dia Frampton from Utah. Will the coaches choose her for one of the coveted spots?

A terrified Dia sings “Bubbly,” making Blake Shelton turn his chair around in a matter of seconds! After a little longer, Cee Lo Green also presses his button for Dia, but it’s Blake that the children’s book author eventually chooses as her mentor for the competition.

There are now 2 contestants remaining for the Blind Auditions, but there are 6 spots to fill.

Curtis Grimes has his sights set on making it onto country crooner Blake Shelton’s team, and to show how bad he wants it, he’s singing one of Blake’s songs, “Hillbilly Bone.” Will his bargain pay off?

Surprisingly, it’s Cee Lo Green that turns his chair around for Curtis! This is going to be interesting!

Another duo, sisters Tori & Taylor Thompson, try to wow the judges next with “Stuck Like Glue.” As they sing the last line of the song, Cee Lo Green presses his button just in time to add the girls to his team.

Okay, so with no one left to audition, and Adam, Christina, and Blake still needing more team members, the coaches and host Carson Daly decide that the only thing left to do is to give a few contestants a second chance to fight for one of the 4 remaining spots.

Which of the talented singers will get a shot at redemption?

Of the 8 chosen to try once more to impress the judges, Lily Elise belts out “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, and finally, Christina Aguilera, who regretted passing up on her before, presses her button to add Lily to her team.

That brings Christina’s team to 8, so Adam and Blake are the only two coaches with spots remaining.

Sonia Rao, one of Cee Lo Green’s faves, sings “Chasing Pavements,” but for the second time, she isn’t selected. And yes, once again, Adam and Blake are both kicking themselves for not picking her.

Next, father-of-six, Jared Blake, sings “Not Ready To Make Nice” and manages to get Blake Shelton to turn his chair around!

Now, it’s just down to Adam.

Casey Weston, 18, is getting her second shot and sings “Stupid Boy,” trying desperately to turn Adam Levine around in his chair…and he does!

But he still needs one more team member.

Angela Wolff returns singing “Rolling in the Deep,” and Adam quickly adds her to his team.

With all four teams set, the coaches and their singers must now prepare for the next phase of the competition — the Battles.

Who will make the cut?
