X Factor: Cheryl Cole Officially Confirmed As Judge

May 05, 2011 10:30 AM by Candace Young

FOX has made it official – British pop superstar, Cheryl Cole, will be joining Simon Cowell and Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid on the judging panel for the US edition of X Factor, which will kick off this Fall.  Keep reading for more details…

Cheryl Cole, the British multi-platinum solo artist and member of Girls Aloud, is no stranger to sitting on a judging panel with Simon Cowell – she has done so for three years on the successful UK version of X Factor.  Today, FOX officially confirmed that she will also sit on the panel of the upcoming US version of the show, debuting this Fall.

Cheryl, Simon, Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid, and another judge yet to be announced (possibly Paula Abdul), will travel to the US audition cities as they look to spot a breakout musical group or potential global superstar.

Cowell certainly seems pleased with the news, saying, “I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with. She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.”

The feeling seems to be mutual. Cheryl issued this statement in the press release, “I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of THE X Factor. I absolutely love it here in the U.K., and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special. I can’t wait to get started. I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me. He’s tried to beat me for three years in the U.K., and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.”

X Factor auditions come to Dallas, Texas on Thursday May 26.  The show is searching for undiscovered talent 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – who are willing to brave the panel for a chance to win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.
