Dancing With The Stars: What The Celebrities Get Paid

May 07, 2011 10:00 AM by Allyson Wells

Dancing with the Stars can be a lot of work on the stars that sign up for the show.  Not only do they have day-long rehearsals, they also must be away from their family and loved ones.  However, the cast members do get paid for their time on the show.  Keep reading to find out what the stars are earning for donning dancing shoes.

Popeater is reporting that the celebrity contestants on the show get paid a hefty paycheck.  An insider revealed to them, “When you sign up, every contestant gets $150,000 for 6 weeks rehearsals and the first two shows.”  For those stars who are lucky enough to make it to the finals, the financial incentives are even greater.  “Then every week you survive you make an extra $10,000, then $20,000, then $30,000 and so on, so the winner takes home $350,000.”

A past contestant claims that the pay is not enough for the amount of work that the celebrities do.  This contestant revealed to Popeater that they have “12-hour work days and ridiculous amounts of stress and strain on the body.”  The former contestant, who is not on the current cycle 12 said, “The show doesn’t pay for massages or anything else.  The amount of physical stress and strain they put your body through, rehearsing six days a week, eight hours a day, is ridiculous.  I have never worked so hard in my life.  Our call time was 6:00 am and we were rehearsing with the band by 8 and then live on the dance floor that evening.  That’s a 12-hour day.”

While the celebrities seem to be compensated nicely for their stint in the ballroom, it appears they have to find their own health care coverage like the rest of us.

Gentlemen,I saw that the Stars are selected from Hollywood Industry, Sport Industry, and Politics. What about a Star from immigrants, the legal ones. I left communist Romania 30 years ago for a vacation on a land full of all opportunities. I was 45 years old and no English language knowledge but with a strong desire to succeed. I left home three small children (3, 6, and 10 years old) as an assurance that I will return after vacation. But, once I arrived here I asked for political asylum. Because I was General Manager for a large Romanian construction company in Libya, the FBI put me on a black list as a potential informer for the Khadafy regime. Therefore, the asylum was granted only after close to 3 years, when my children got approval to join me. I managed to learn the language very soon, taking classes at the local Community College, and working as a civil/structural engineer in Engineering Company where I reached the position of VP and manager of one of the company’s office. At the same time, I spent all the time required to get my children the highest education; one has a MD in civil engineering, one is MD physician, and one has a MD in finance. At present time I am working for myself as an engineering consultant. I am very active person, practicing biking, kayaking, or swimming daily, and I am in very good health. Can I be a candidate for one of the future dancing with the stars shows?
Lot of thanks for your consideration
