Paula Abdul is officially signed to be a judge on X Factor, but it was a close shave with the first round of auditions. Simon Cowell told The Hollywood Reporter that he would have called off Sunday’s auditions if the deal hadn’t been inked.
He seemed to blame the delay on the legal team charged with getting the papers signed, saying, “The issue was that these conversations had gone on long enough. It’s not like I sprung this on somebody. I just thought it’s time for everyone to do their job and get the deal done. I couldn’t have sat in front of you lot and said (Paula) wanted to do the deal and we couldn’t.”
Simon felt it was important to have his past American Idol co-star on board, commenting, “I could just sense that the public would’ve been disappointed without Paula. You see how we are; we get on really well.”
Abdul, who will serve on the panel which includes Simon, Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid, and Cheryl Cole, is thrilled about the development, telling Access Hollywood, “[This is] another dream come true, believe it or not.”
Nicole Scherzinger, of Pussycat Dolls and Dancing With the Stars fame, has also been signed on to co-host alongside British TV personality, Steve Jones.
