American Idol: Randy Jackson Calls The Voice “Gimmicky”

May 10, 2011 08:00 AM by Lisa Princ

While so many people are tuning in to NBC’s newest series The Voice, we can guarantee you that one person who won’t be watching anytime soon is Randy Jackson of American Idol on FOX. In fact, after The Voice mentor Adam Levine decided to blast American Idol on the show, The “Dawg” fired back with with some not-so-nice words of his own, including calling the new series “gimmicky”. Keep reading for all the drama filled details!

During last week’s auditions show of The Voice, mentor and Maroon 5 band member, Adam Levine commented that “The people that we’re not turning our chairs around for could win American Idol”. Now, you better believe that American Idol’s Top Dawg was not going to take that one without biting back. Randy Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter after hearing Adam’s comments  “It’s a great thing when talent can be simple, honest and revered as opposed to spinning around with gimmicky chairs. Maybe Simon Cowell should have people opening doors. Like, ‘Knock, knock; Who’s singing? I can’t see you!’”

Certainly you can’t blame Randy for being angry, I mean American Idol has been around for a decade and despite the loss of several judges last season is still topping the rating charts. Randy knowing this, said that without American Idol, there would be no The Voice and he adds “Look, none of these other shows could exist without somebody forging the path before them. I’m happy to say that Idol did that and paved the way.” Oddly enough, Adam Levine didn’t think Idol was too bad in past years when he was performing on the show with Maroon 5 – maybe he is jealous that he was not asked to join the Idol judging panel? That’s okay with us, I think I speak for most fans when we say we’ll keep Steven Tyler!

Which show do you like better American Idol or The Voice? Comment and share your thoughts with us – we’d love to hear from you. Then be sure to tune in next week to see the top four performances!

Both shows have their value … talent is talent and fun to watch. For many of these folks this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is great watching them groove.

I prefer the “Voice” over the “Idol” but must say they both have their strengths and weaknesses. They are both fun to watch.

I prefer the Voice because the judges simply have a voice to make his/her decision and not the looks of the person as is done on the Idol.
