It was a strategy-heavy night on Survivor: Redemption Island as people were working on deals all over the island. Boston Rob found himself in the middle as Natalie and Ashley formed a tighter bond. Plus, one more was sent packing from the game for good after losing the latest duel on Redemption Island.
Hard Feelings, Hard Ground
Matt was far from excited to see Andrea arrive on what he strangely called, ” the Isle of Redemption.” It didn’t take long for the pair to start arguing as she questioned all of his dirty looks at previous duels. He retorted by asking why she constantly flashes puppy dog eyes in his direction after she contributed to his elimination. Andrea didn’t back down and explained her frustrations that he sold her out to Boston Rob. Matt apologized although it seemed very sarcastic.
When it came to the sleeping arrangements, Ralph wasn’t nice at all to Andrea. Since there wasn’t much room in the shelter, he felt like she could sleep on the ground beside it. Why? Simply as payback for the way she and the other Ometepe members treated Zapatera once they all merged.
The duel wasn’t anything spectacular. None of the duels so far have been spectacular. Anyway… It featured a table maze followed by a puzzle. The first three to complete the puzzle would live another day. Once the challenge was underway, Ralph was the first — by a mile — to finish the table maze. He was followed by Mike, Matt and Andrea.
Host Jeff Probst did deliver one oddly funny line during the challenge: “You lose this challenge, your shot at the money is over. You become a member of the jury. That blows.”
But when it came time to finish the puzzle, Ralph fell way behind and lost the challenge. As Homer Simpson would say, “D’oh!” Not good at puzzles, Ralph? Maybe it’s because the puzzle had writing on it and letters freaked him out. You have seen his spelling, right? Yikes! I wish it would have been closer so I could have written that he lost by the hair on his back.
Sorry, Ralph. I’ll stop picking on you now. You seem pretty cool and I can’t wait to meet you!
As Ralph tossed his buff into the urn, he had a quiver in his chin and a tear in his eye. With that, Ralph became the latest member of the jury.
Back at Murlonio, Ashley and Natalie continued to share their tight bond — which just became tighter after another fight with Phillip ignited. This time it was over the amount of calories men need to survive compared to a woman. Phillip’s argument was that women can survive on 1,700 calories a day while somebody like Grant needs 3,600. Ashley didn’t want any of Phillip’s garbage, so she told him to get away. It didn’t take long for Natalie to jump in the fight on Ashley’s side.
In confessional, Boston Rob said that Phillip was doing everything wrong. Instead of doing everything to splinter the chicks apart, he was making them bond even more because of the way he was attacking them.
After offering an idea to Natalie first, Ashley soon went to Boston Rob and expressed her desire to target Grant for elimination. While Boston Rob said it was something to consider, he clearly didn’t want to do that. His big plan was to take Ashley out next because he wanted to split the girls apart.
The next day, Boston Rob and Natalie were alone when he vowed to have her back all the way to the end of the game. He tried to comfort Natalie in the concept of voting off Ashley because it was the best next step for both of them.
At the Immunity Challenge, the five contestants had to use large fish hooks to retrieve several bags of puzzle pieces. They then had to take those pieces and construct a puzzle that resembled a fish skeleton. The twist? It was all done with one hand tied behind their back.
One thing was clear in this challenge — Natalie was terrible. Not even close competition to the other people. Awful. But it was a close battle between Boston Rob and Ashley throughout the entire competition. Ashley was able to prevail and claimed the Immunity necklace for herself. In addition to safety from the vote, Ashley won a three-course meal to be delivered at camp for herself and one other player. Surprise… She chose Natalie.
Boston Rob found himself in similar territory from previous seasons — the need to betray somebody. With their intended target winning Immunity, Boston Rob now needed to figure out what to do next. It didn’t take him long to realize that Grant should be the next to go. Plus, it would look like he was supporting Ashley’s idea of targeting Grant.
So to play his strategy, Boston Rob went down and played an act to Grant. The two basically sat there in the sand agreeing that Natalie she be the next person to get voted off. Grant was convinced that was how it would go down, too. “The princess is gonna have a red carpet straight to Redemption Island,” he said.
When it came time for Tribal Council, the scheme was executed and Grant was voted out.
Eight contestants remain alive in the competition heading into Sunday night’s finale. There are four players who have never been voted out and four left on Redemption Island. Who will outwit, outplay and outlast all the others to become the sole Survivor?
