America’s Next Top Model: Hannah Thinks She Could Have Gone All The Way
May 15, 2011 10:00 AM by Allyson Wells
On America’s Next Top Model, Hannah was eliminated just shy of reaching the final two. She now speaks out about that last panel, her biggest challenges on the show, and her plans for the future. Keep reading to see what Hannah has to say and who she hopes will win it all.
Question: What was the biggest challenge you encountered while on the show?
Hannah: My own self doubt. I didn’t believe in myself at some points. When I watch the show and see myself, I wonder, what if I would have just not cared what anybody thought and had just followed my own instincts? I should have just had more confidence with myself as a model. It was a lot to be in a room with a bunch of pretty young girls. So the biggest challenge was bringing back up my confidence — not egotistical, but confident in my capability.
Question: How were you feeling going into the panel?
Hannah: I felt like I had a really good chance of being in the top two, but that panel was very different from every other panel because there’s only one person before the bottom two. It’s very scary. Going in, I felt pretty confidence cos I knew I’d done really well in my photoshoot and I had a lot of fun doing it so I thought I would be okay. When I saw my picture I also felt really confident that I was going to continue. I got really great feedback from Ivan at IMG so I thought I would be okay. Walking into the panel for the elimination portion felt a little weird, though. I kind of sensed it coming. It just felt really strange. I was hoping that my photo was going to be called first – I thought it was worthy of that but it wasn’t. I kind of had a feeling then that I was going to be going home.
Question: Do you think that there was anything you could have done differently?
Hannah: I feel like I definitely could have done better in the shoot the previous week. For some reason I was really off that day and just felt weird and preoccupied. It’s hard doing your job when you feel like that, especially when your job is to look good, sell the clothes and have a specific demeanor. I see that photo now and think, oh if only I was a little more intense and felt the James Bond vibe more… I feel that I looked really pretty but I wasn’t doing my job as a model and that was my downfall. If I would have done better, my portfolio as a whole would have been stronger than the other girls.
Question: Any regrets?
Hannah: I’m really proud of myself because I’d never really modeled before. I did test shoots to get a starting portfolio together because I planned to go to a couple of agencies. I auditioned for the show thinking I would have to audition a couple more times at least because there are so many people that audition. It just kind of fell into place and happened so quickly and flawlessly. Before I knew it, I was top three. I got so much further and exceeded all my expectations that I set for myself and that’s what matters for me. I have so many opportunities now and I see the potential in myself. Before, I knew that I had potential but I didn’t know that I had what it takes. Now, I’m just so much more confident in myself as a person and a model.
Question: Who would you like to see win, Brittani or Molly?
Hannah: I really hope that Brittani wins. I know how much she wants it. She’s so passionate! Ever since the first day of the competition, she and I had our arms linked. We were kind of comrades through the entire thing and our plan was to be the final two. It really didn’t work out that way, but I hope that she wins because she’s coming from a place that a lot of people are inspired by. She has broken boundaries and broken out these walls and is proving a lot of people wrong. I think that is so respectable. She’s kind of the whole Top Model package – I think she represents everything the show is looking for and I think she’ll win.
Question: How do you stay in shape?
Hannah: I drink a lot of water. That’s not only good for your body, but also for your skin. A lot of people don’t realize you need to drink at least 90 ounces a day. I carry around a water bottle all day. It helps maintain your weight. It’s also good to stay away from processed foods. I eat clean — no GMOs. When I do eat meat, I have the occasional chicken or grass-fed beef. Animals that are raised in a humane farm setting are happier animals, and I know that they are at least treated properly. I think that’s why Tyra gave me the nickname “Hippie Hannah.” I try to be as ecological as possible, which also helps your weight. Processed food is not nutritionally beneficial at all. It’s also really important to eat more vegetables. Vegetables and water put together are the easiest thing.
Question: What can we expect to see next from you?
Hannah: I don’t really know yet! It’s weird because since the show was airing, I kind of had to pause for a second. Now that I’m off it, these next two weeks is the time for IMG to pick me up if they want – they have first dibs. They’ll hopefully call me because I’d really love to represent them and go to casting calls. If that doesn’t happen, it’s either New York or LA. I love New York, I think the fashion is so cool and it’s high fashion jobs I’d be getting there. LA has more commercial work and that’s where all the acting is. I have a background in acting and I love the entertainment world. I’m keeping my options open. I just want to be ready for everything. This next step is just me going out there to knock on every single possible door that hasn’t opened to met yet.
