The team hears that parents Cindy and Michael, share the home schooling of Patrick, who has already broken 59 bones in his life. The family lives in a 50 year-old home with sloping floors which presents a huge issue for Patrick. Keep reading for the highlights!
Michael, Cindy, and Patrick Sharrock are surprised by the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team while at a museum. They go to see the current house. The house is loaded with hazards for Patrick. While Ty does the tour with Michael and Cindy, Patrick shows Xzibit and Ed his hideout in the yard. Later, he shows Ty his building toys. He also loves comic books and superheroes.
The family meets the project builders from Vision Homes and take in the sea of volunteers before heading on vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Once the family settles in and starts having fun, Ty contacts them to watch the demolition of their old home – super hero style! When they get started on the new house, Ed explains that they are putting a pool in first and then building the house around it. Xzibit works on making Patrick’s wheelchair into part of his superhero gear.
Leigh Anne Tuohy heads to the zoo to get ideas for the safari-themed room she is planning for Michael and Cindy. She visits with the animals and even holds a baby snow leopard. Back at the house, progress is really being made. Ty describes how they’re designing it so that it’s easier for Patrick to get around. Ed and Xzibit work on creating a special area for Patrick in the yard.
Eduardo meets with a man who has brittle bone disease who gives input on things like rounded edges on counter tops. Ty contacts the family to tell Patrick that he’ll be making a public service announcement – he’s thrilled.
One of the builders explains to Leigh Anne and Eduardo how cameras have been placed throughout the home to help the parents watch Patrick if one of them is home alone with him. On vacation, Patrick meets with actor Atticus Shaffer from ‘The Middle” who has brittle bone disease. The rest of the cast appear as well.
The Sharrock family comes home and before long the crowd was chanting to move that bus! Michael says they’re up in the clouds after seeing their new home. They thank the builders and go inside. Patrick is excited to see the therapy pool in the house. Michael says it will improve Patrick’s quality of life. Ty enters and points out the open spaces for Patrick to manoeuver as well as the kitchen area that is safe and at his level.
Xzibit rolls out the souped up new wheelchair which Patrick loves. He gets to see his new playroom which is full of building toys and has an accessible washroom. It’s from CVS Pharmacy, who also set up a $25 000 fund for medical expenses.
Michael and Cindy get to see their dream safari room with attached bathroom. They call it a refuge. Leigh Anne shows them the camera system on which they can monitor Patrick in any area of the home.
Out in the yard, the builders announce that with the help of donors and sponsors, they have paid off the family’s mortgage. Ty welcomes the Sharrock family home.
