The Biggest Loser: Rulon Gardner To Speak At Fundraiser

May 16, 2011 02:00 PM by Lisa Princ

Who can forget Rulon Gardner of The Biggest Loser on NBC who decided to walk off the ranch during the weigh in on favorites week? Rulon, who claimed that he reached his goals but was still sneaking in late night snacks is now set to speak a fundraiser this month after barely saying anything upon his departure from the show. Keep reading for more details!

The Biggest Loser’s Rulon Gardner had the best chance of winning the entire season, yet the Olympic gold medalist chose to walk away stating he had family issues going on at home. Weeks went by and we never heard a peep out of Rulon, but now he is preparing to speak at the La Salle High School fundraiser on May 26th at Receptions Banquet and Conference Center in Fairfield, OH. The school’s athletic director said “Rulon’s story is truly amazing. He’ll be discussing his life and accomplishments, from winning a gold medal to his time on The Biggest Loser.”

If you are in the area and would like to see Rulon or ask him a question or two you have two choices for tickets – VIP tickets, which are $85 per person or $150 per couple, include a meet and greet with Gardner beginning at 6 p.m., open bar and hors d’oeuvres, dinner at 7, and a speech expected to last upwards of 45 minutes. VIP ticket-buyers will also have an opportunity to pose with Gardner in an 8×10 photo. General tickets, which are $50 per person or $90 per couple, cover dinner and the speech, along with beer, wine and soft drinks. Gardner is expected to field questions after his speech. For more information on gaining tickets, you can visit La Salle High School.

Rulon Gardner is still unconfirmed for the finale of The Biggest Loser in two weeks, and NBC has also mentioned that regardless of whether or not he makes an appearance, he is not eligible for the $100,000 at home prize since he quit. What a shame!!! He doesn’t deserve to have the title of “Olympic medal winner,”………..Olympians don’t quit!!!

He seemed willing to go to the end until Tara came on and beat him in a challenge. He really wanted to win that one and finally be on the Wheaties box. All the life seemed to go out of him after losing. It’s my opinion that family/personal reasons was just an excuse. He couldn’t handle losing that one challenge.

Rulon was wrong to quit. But on another note, why were they having former contestants compete with current contestants? Hello? She already won the title Biggest Loser and won $250,000!
That was a stupid thing to do. And one more thing, now that Jullian is leaving, the show will will not last long. I didn’t think much of the other two trainers they brought in this season, and I wasn’t impressed with Jullian’s replacement they introduced Tuesday at the finale either. The show is doomed to fail.

IMO, The producers did a VERY unfair thing to the contestants by allowing Tara to compete against them. I could see if they said “Tara will be here to cheer you on” or “Tara will compete but is ineligible for the prize”

The reason I say this is Rulon and the other contestants were still losing weight and getting into shape while Tara had been competing in triathlons and other competitions.

Hey! Lets pitch someone who has been doing Triathlons against these recovering overweight people and see who wins!

Not only that, they chose the challenge Tara excelled at! Rulon is a WRESTLER, he specialty (at his prime) is strength and power…not speed. Tara has been training in competitions where she has to run and ride bikes.

It was incredibly unfair and I don’t blame Rulon for being upset because it was not a fair match.

My 2 cents. Honestly, I never thought Rulon should have been on the show. His is an Olympic Athelete. He knows how to train, he knows how to succeed. He’s basically a professional.

From the lack of information, I think it was probably planned for him to leave. Just to be fair to the people that aren’t world class atheletes.

After watching BL for years, I see that it isn’t always fair or honest.

BL probably kissed Rulon’s butt for weeks (in exchange for have an Olympic athlete to brag about). They treated him special because they wanted him there for the ratings. That was unfair to the other contestents, but they weathered it. And, of course, Rulon didn’t mind being treated unfairly as long as it is in his favor.

Then BL yanked the rug out by letting a previous contestant win the Wheaties box contest. Now Rulon got a taste of how it feels to get the short end of the stick.

Rulon’s response? Quit. He tried to say it was to be at home, but the way he did it indicates that he was mad at the show and took his Olympic marbles out of spite.

A lot of athletes are like this. Treated like kings in school, they get so full of themselves that when they are treated unfairly by the real world, they implode. Happens to lots of narcissists.

Anyway, congrats to Rulon and to all who lost a considerable amount of weight. That is a substantial accomplishment in itself.
