Dancing with the Stars had one of its most memorable semi-final rounds. It was packed with intensity, emotion, and determination. Chelsea Kane and Hines Ward reached absolute perfection with straight tens. Kirstie Alley and Ralph Macchio performed well, but were behind in points. Who will be eliminated one dance short of the finals?
Len Goodman believes the competition went to a whole new level and everyone brought their A-game. They request to see Chelsea and Mark’s rumba again for the encore dance. I know the judges had a difficult choice, but I would rather have seen Hines and Kym’s tango again.
Hines and Kym’s backstage footage is shown. A tearful Hines gets emotional before and after their tango. Kym tells him not to cry because she is okay. Seeing it again gets me teary-eyed. Kym tells Hines he is the best. Backstage, Hines is still emotional and Kym asks him why he watched the footage before they danced and wonders how he got through it. After their samba, he worries about her neck again. Kym thinks he is dancing like a pro. Hines and Kym wait on the dance floor to learn if they are in the finals. Tom reveals that they made it, and the thrilled pair embrace.
Brooke chats with the remaining three couples backstage. She asks Ralph if his fans will pull them through. He asserts they perform for the fans and that feels great, despite the judges’ comments. Chelsea claims she had a blast and would love to be in the finals. Mark thinks the finals are bittersweet and hopes they all make it through. Kirstie laughs she will cope with the finals the same way they have been-by strangling one another.
Tom introduces Stevie Nicks to the stage. She performs her new single “Secret Dreams.” Anna Trebunskaya and Dmitry Chaplin perform to the song, along with some of the Dancing with the Stars Troupe dancers. Next, international music sensation Pit Bull performs “Give me everything,” featuring Neo.
Chelsea and Mark’s backstage footage is shown next. They are shown going full throttle through all of the dances. They are so excited to have won the winner takes all cha-cha. Chelsea laughs that they can rebuild their relationship because she hated him this week. They head to the stage to learn their results. Tom announces that the pair has made it to the finals.
Hines, Kym, Chelsea and Mark wait backstage with Brooke. Hines is excited to reveal he gets to do his quickstep again during the finals. Chelsea says they are doing the samba again. Hines says his strategy is just to go out and have fun. Mark claims their strategy is the same. Chelsea asserts she wants the mirror ball trophy badly.
The Dancing with the Stars inspirational story of the week is about Tayla Kelley. Tayla has a disease that compromises her immune system. She is expected to only live to age eighteen. Dancing compromises her chances because of bacteria, but her mom doesn’t want her to live her life in a bubble. Tayla’s sister loves that she is pushing the disease out of her way to dance. She gets a special visit from Chelsie Hightower and Lacey Schwimmer. They teach her a routine and the three perform it together live for a very special dance. Tayla performs awesome and gets a standing ovation.
The stars reflect on their breaking and turning points of the competition. Chelsea notes they all have been pushed to their breaking point, but how they handle them matters the most. Ralph didn’t think he would be able to work past his knee pain. Kirstie reveals her excruciating hip pain almost kept her out of the competition. Chelsea felt stressed during the team dance. Hines confesses that Kym’s fall was one of the scariest moments of his life. Ralph thinks his turning point was when Karina fell during their paso and they helped one another get back into it. Kirstie notes when her shoe came off during their waltz was a turning point for her. Hines admits his emotions took over because God gave Kym another chance to dance.
Stevie Nicks returns to the stage to perform the classic Fleetwood Mac hit, “Landslide.” Cheryl Burke and Tony Dovalani perform a beautiful dance along to the song.
Backstage footage of Kirstie and Maks and Ralph and Karina are shown. Maks instructs her to be calm during the dance and to be excited when its done. She holds her enthusiasm till the end. Ralph is shown to be super excited prior to their first dance. After the judges’ harsh comments on their second dance, he is disappointed because he feels like they gave the judges exactly what they asked for. The two popular couples head to the stage to learn who will be in the finals and who will be eliminated. Tom announces that Ralph and Karina are eliminated one week shy of the finals. Brooke notes last night was frustrating but wonders what memories he will take with him. Ralph says the first night of the competition was one of the best nights of his life and his fans drove him. He then tells Karina she inspired him with her class and talent and she inspires him. Karina will miss their rehearsals because they always had fun together. Highlights of his season are shown, and he notes the show is an experience he will never forget. The duo go to the center of the stage for one last dance. A tearful Karina hugs Ralph, as he makes her laugh one last time.
What did you think of the results? Are you excited about the finale? At the beginning of the season, I was hoping for a Ralph, Kirstie and Hines finale. I’m sad to see Ralph go one show prior to the finals, but am still excited to see what the others will bring.
