This week on NBC’s The Voice, with four contestants out of the competition, the Battle Rounds continue, as coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green have their team members go head-to-head to see which singers will make it through to the Live shows.
First up are Tje Austin and Nakia from Cee Lo Green’s team, who will be singing “Closer” by Nee yo. After some help from their coach and R&B singer Monica, the two hit the stage for the battle, with their families waiting backstage, cheering them on.
Nakia already thinks that the song choice gives Tje a natural advantage, but will his unique voice be able to give him the edge he needs to win?
After the battle, Adam Levine says that Nakia is the winner in his book, as does Blake Shelton. But who does coach Cee Lo Green choose? [Again with the annoying commercial break.] It’s Nakia!
Next, newlywed Blake Shelton has paired the folksy duo (and fellow newlyweds), Elenowen with father-of-six Jared Blake. They will be singing Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Hmm… Will three be a crowd for this love song?
Jared is worried that the two voices will overpower him, but Reba McEntire instructs him to take command of the stage and make his presence known.
When the three singers rehearse on the stage, Blake Shelton starts to get concerned about his choice, admitting that the three voices aren’t blending as well as he’d like them to.
It’s time for their battle, and the three artists enter the ring, with Jared starting the song (and in case you were wondering, yes, the threesome is awkward; so very awkward…).
After the battle, both Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green think that Jared is the clear winner, and Reba adds that he definitely looked more comfortable on the stage. With some hesitation, not wanting to have to send home the couple he fought so hard to get on his team, Blake Shelton chooses Jared Blake as the winner of the battle!
Maroon 5′s Adam Levine pairs the competition’s early favorite, Javier Colon, with Angela Wolff for a rendition of “Stand By Me.” Adam advises both singers to stay true to the song, keeping it simple, rather than trying to “sing it too much.” Which artist will make it through?
The battle begins, and both artists doing well (although, it does seem a tad unfair that Angela, who wasn’t selected her first time through, has to go up against someone that EVERY coach wanted on their team — but, whatever…). Again, all of the coaches are practically mesmerized by Javier. Blake Shelton is literally mesmerized. But the decision is Adam Levine’s, and he chooses… Do we even need to say it? Really? Javier Colon will go on to the Live shows — shocker!
In the final battle of the evening, rocker Beverly McClellan and Justin Grennan will sing The Who’s “Bubba O’Reilly.” Immediately, Beverly – a huge fan of The Who – tells Justin that he’s in trouble. And you know what? We couldn’t agree more.
But wait — after some coaching from Christina, Justin finds a way to make the song his own. A real battle is a’ brewin’!!!
After their battle, Cee Lo Green says that Beverly stole the performance, but Adam Levine is surprised that she didn’t “murderize” Justin, and that he held his own. Proud that the other coaches are lovin’ her team members, Christina Aguilera now has a tough choice to make. Although she says that she’s extremely proud of Justin’s growth since the beginning of the competition, it’s Beverly McClellan that will join Frenchie Davis in the Live shows for team Christina.
