In the explosive season premiere of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey, Teresa Giudice and sister-in-law Melissa Gorga gave new meaning to the phrase “family feud” when the mounting tension between the ladies and husbands Joe Giudice and Joe Gorga came to a head at what was supposed to be a sacred event. In an interview with Life & Style magazine, on newsstands this Friday (May 20), Melissa and Joe, give their take on the shocking brawl that took place at their son’s christening, and what they feel is the reason the family has been torn apart.
“I was so upset,” new housewife Melissa Gorga tells Life & Style of the fight that aired on the season premiere of Bravo‘s Real Housewives of New Jersey, ruining her son’s christening.
But according to Gorga, it was only a matter of time before the couple lashed out against the disturbing behavior of Teresa Giudice, her husband’s older sister.
“Teresa’s never given us any respect,” says Melissa. “She was being fake, just acting nice for the cameras.”
Joe Gorga agrees, telling the magazine that the Bravo cameras were the only reason his sister even bothered to show up to the christening.
“My sister didn’t even want to be there,” Joe claims. “She’d just signed her Housewives contract that morning or the day before because she was mad that we were on the show.”
Of course, the problems in the family began long before the Real Housewives put Teresa Giudice in the spotlight.
“I think when Joe and I started making a lot of money is when she really lost it,” Melissa Gorga says of her sister-in-law. “She was used to being the biggest and the best, and then when I came in, she felt threatened. She doesn’t want anyone to one up her. Teresa’s fine with you as long as you’re one step below.”
For Joe Gorga, the biggest struggle has been the declining relationship with his parents, which he also blames on Teresa and her husband, Joe Giudice.
“Teresa would tell our parents ‘Melissa this,’ ‘Melissa that’ or ‘Joey didn’t do this,’ and my parents have never been the same,” says Gorga. “Her husband talks about me to them all the time, too.”
While the future is uncertain, both Melissa and Joe Gorga say that they’d like the family to be able to come together.
“Things couldn’t get any worse, so I’m hoping it only gets better post-show,” says Melissa. “Maybe we can become a family again.”
“I have wonderful kids, a beautiful house, the whole package — but I don’t have my family. I’m crying out for my family,” adds Joe.
