The Real Housewives of New York City: Is Bravo Giving the NYC Housewives the Boot?

May 19, 2011 03:30 PM by Shayla Perry

Insiders say that Bravo is considering a complete overhaul of The Real Housewives of New York City. What does this mean for the show and its cast members? Keep reading for more details.

They’re only a few weeks into the new season, but already there’s word that Bravo is looking to revamp The Real Housewives of New York City.

Not particularly good news for Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan, Alex McCord, and the rest of the cast; especially after the season premiere was pushed back and re-shot because the network’s execs thought it was too boring. Of course, Bravo maintains that the move was made in order to successfully roll out the newest show in the franchise, The Real Housewives of Miami, but after watching the train wreck of a spin-off, we know better than to believe them.

Though they tried to compensate for the loss of fan fave Bethenny Frankel with the casting of entrepreneur Cindy Barshop, insiders say that all of the ladies are in danger of getting the ax.

“They want an entirely different cast,” a source reveals to The New York Post. “They want rich, rich women, like Adrienne Maloof and Camille Grammer, dripping in glamour and $10 million penthouses. And they don’t want to fake it. They are discreetly reaching out to women who fit the bill.”

The ratings for this season of the show have been decent, but pale in comparison to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which gave the network its highest rated Housewives finale in the history of the franchise.

When asked to comment on the rumor, a rep for Bravo said: “We’re always casting for new housewives in every city.” As for the idea of replacing the entire cast, the rep’s reply was: “We’ve never done that before.”

With an answer like that — Alex McCord, Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon… it looks like it’s about time for a Plan B.
