Simon Cowell predicted it during American Idol on FOX‘s fourth season and though it took Carrie Underwood a few years, it has finally come true. Ironically, the news of country superstar Carrie Underwood becoming Idol’s best seller comes as we are heading into a country duel for the finale this week. Keep reading for more details!
Last year it was American Idol’s season one winner, Kelly Clarkson who ruled the Idol 24 chart on Billboard, but this year season four winner, Carrie Underwood has surpassed her. According to Neilsen Kelly Clarkson has had 10,600,000 albums and 15,900,000 digital tracks sold since 2002. But that changed as of May 16, when Carrie Underwood’s album sales topped 12,296,000 and she’s moved more than 18,482,000 digital tracks since winning season four of the show.
Is it ironic that the show’s only country winner has become the number one selling in a year when we are going to be watching a country finale? Carrie is also earning more tour as Kelly’s tour revenues since her win hover around $32,000,000, while Carrie’s are twice that amount since 2006, or north of $66,000,000. Of course adding to Carrie’s rise to the top was her recent role in the movie “Soul Surfer” as well as numerous television appearances. Carrie Underwood is definitely an inspiration to both Scotty and Lauren, just when they need it the most!
