It’s finally here! The much awaited season ten finale of American Idol on FOX started tonight. Maybe you already checked out our live Tweeting of the performances, but in case you didn’t, read on to hear how the top two did tonight!
American Idol’s season finale kicked off tonight with three performances each by Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina. Ryan filled us that the performances would consist of the top two’s favorite song that they performed this season, then a song chosen by their personal idols, which would be Carrie Underwood in Lauren’s case and George Strait in Scotty’s case. Their third song would be an original song that they would release upon winning the competition. Before they started Ryan informed us of some problems Lauren was having with her voice earlier but we were assured that she would be fine and had taken lots of medications to help her.
For the first round, Scotty chose to perform “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry and Lauren chose to perform “Flat On The Floor” by Carrie Underwood. Though neither were judged on these performances, probably because they already were once, they both rocked it! They both performed them as perfectly as they did originally, and if the competition stays like this, I feel sorry for the voters because you have a tough decision to make!
For their idol choices, George Straight chose one of his own songs for Scotty in “Check Yes Or No” and Scotty blew it away, it was an awesome performance. Lauren was performing “Maybe in Memphis” courtesy of Carrie Underwood’s choice and Lauren also did an excellent job on the song. After they finished, the judges chimed in with Randy telling America that they did a fine job choosing the finalists, and then he went on to say Scotty won round one and Lauren won round two. Jennifer called it an explosive start and agreed with Randy while Steven said Lauren won both rounds for him, only because she was prettier than Scotty.
Then we watched Taio Cruz perform his new single “Positive” courtesy of the Coke lyrics contest. Up next Jimmy Iovine introduced the songs that the top two would be recording should they win and up first was Scotty McCreery with a song called “I Love You This Big” and it was a beautiful song and a perfect performance. This performance was probably one of Scotty’s best all season and everyone loved him. He had the crowd moving and the judges in awe. Randy started off by saying that the range was great because Scotty sang low and really high and he gushed that Scotty was “in it to win it”, that it was “game time” and he ended by telling Scotty what a brilliant vocal it was. Jennifer loved the story telling and called it amazing while Steven said that Scotty has come a long way and he “nailed it”.
Lauren’s song if she wins, would be “Like My Mother Does” and it was beautiful as well and almost had me in tears. Randy said that was an amazing song, and he said he loved that at the end, it was finally the Lauren we saw in Nashville. Jennifer said it was a tough race tonight but with that song Lauren may have just won. Steven added that when he first saw her she was his American Idol and he thinks America will say that as well, then continued to say that in his eyes she is the American Idol – wow powerful words Steven!
Then Ryan asked who won round three and Randy said a slight edge to Lauren Alaina while Jennifer said it was a tough race, while Steven said Lauren took it hands down. David Cook then took the stage with a live performance of “Don’t You Forget About Me” and made me fall in love with him all over again – what an awesome voice! Now be sure to vote, vote, vote for your favorite and then tune in tomorrow at 8 pm EST for the live results show to find out who will be crowned the season ten winner!
