American Idol: Sympathy Votes For Lauren Alaina?

May 25, 2011 07:30 AM by Christine McDow

The rumors were flying yesterday before American Idol that Lauren Alaina would not be performing. There was even speculation that because Lauren Alaina would be unable to sing, that the producers would invite Haley Reinhart back to sing in the finale. According to the “American Idol medical staff”, Lauren was practicing SO HARD yesterday that she sprained her vocal cords. Oh, but they gave her some medicine and she will be fine! She didn’t sound like she had anything wrong with her vocal cords to us. Could this all have been for sympathy votes?

What did you think when you heard about Lauren Alaina’s vocal cord issues? Did you think there was really something wrong? Do you think that Lauren or the producers thought she wouldn’t have a chance so they would create this ruse to sway sympathy votes her way? Maybe they just wanted the last minute ratings push where people would tune in to the show and see what happened.

Check out ALL of our great American Idol coverage!

Let us know what you think! Was Lauren Alaina’s vocal cord issue legit?

I could definitely tell Lauren was hoarse and struggling to hit her top notes. She went into her head voice (falsetto) to hit the top notes in Flat on the Floor which she did not do previously on that song. It is sad that she struggled so much with her voice at age 16 on a national TV show–but it is worse when people accuse her of lying about it. She’s an amazing singer and she and Scotty both seem like really sweet people. I wish them both the best.
