When Kelly Bensimon of Bravo‘s Real Housewives of New York City decided to start her own jewelry line, she didn’t get her inspiration from nature, or architecture — or her ex-husband Gilles Bensimon’s first wife, Elle Macpherson, as Sonja Morgan suggested on a recent episode. Instead, the Housewife looked to another reality TV star as her muse — American Idol‘s Steven Tyler!
The rocker wasn’t the only inspiration behind her new line. Bensimon says that she also channeled the legendary band Led Zeppelin when developing pieces.
“Channel the icons that you love!,” Kelly told HollywoodLife. “Whoever it is that you emulate, just think, ‘What would they do?’”
Though trying to get into the mind of American Idol’s Steven Tyler sounds like a task in and of itself, the Housewife notes that she also keeps an eye on what people are wearing on “the streets,” as that is where she believes true fashion statements are made.
“What’s on the streets is urban, and modern, and young, and that is where fashion comes from,” says Bensimon.
But don’t worry, that “street” isn’t 5th Avenue. Kelly Bensimon guarantees that her jewelry line is not only versatile, but that it’s also affordable — even for those of us who aren’t exactly rollin’ like The Real Housewives of New York City (or Steven Tyler for that matter). Each piece starts as low as $50!
“The jewelry has legs,” Kelly says. “It has day to night mobility and allows you to be a chameleon.
“Looking good doesn’t have a price point if the quality is there,” she adds, “and the quality of all of my items is 100 percent. I wouldn’t make something that I wouldn’t wear, and I wear all of my pieces.”
