Last night, we watched Scotty McCreery walk away with the season ten crown of American Idol on FOX. In an interview today, Scotty dished about his future, his experience on the show, and the rumors of a relationship between he and Lauren Alaina. Keep reading to hear everything this cute Country crooner wanted to share!
American Idol fans saw an awesome Country duel this week, and despite the judges critique claiming Lauren Alaina had out performed Scotty McCreery, Scotty walked away victorious. Today, Scotty shared some thoughts with us and this is what he wanted all his fans to know:
Question: How are you handling all the attention now?
Scotty McCreery: This is pretty wild. I got to say, it is a whole lot more than I bargained for coming into this. I never would have expected this but I am handling it well, this is what I asked for and this is my new life. I am handling it pretty good so far.
Question: You have mentioned that you are one quarter Puerto Rican, has that influenced you and do you speak any Spanish?
Scotty McCreery: I’ve been to San Juan once with my Grandma – we took a cruise there. I don’t speak Spanish, but my grandma asked me when I was young and I should have. Jennifer seemed to think it gave me a little flavor.
Question: When Carrie Underwood won, she debuted in Nashville, are they going to do the same with you.
Scotty McCreery: We talked about it, I think they are going to try and get me and Lauren out there to fan fest, working on where we’re gonna be playing and maybe working us into the Grand Ole Opry. We will definitely play there that is for sure.
Question: You were deemed a frontrunner all season, was there ever a point where you thought you may be going home?
Scotty McCreery: This week especially. Lauren Alaina is something else, she sings like a bird, and is an amazing young lady. As far as being a frontrunner – that thought never crossed my mind like that as the top 40 down was so talented and it was an amazing ride. I never gave myself a chance as a musician and now it’s about the confidence, I mean I have always had confidence in me….it’s weird the nerves for the show, it’s something else.
Question: When you went to your hometown visit, how many new friends did you have that you didn’t have before?
Scotty McCreery: Oh my goodness, they were all my friends before. It was just a lot of fun to get back there and talk to them all. I am not sure about new friends though because we were all tight there when I left for Hollywood.
Question: After that kiss last night, can you tell us if there is any romance between you and Lauren?
Scotty McCreery: Uh no, we’ve been getting that question a lot today. Me and her are more like the brother/sister thing, she told me before the show she was going do that, kind of like a joke and she did it. She’s a character, she’s lovely, but we are just close friends. I met her on day one of Hollywood week and we went through school together while here. She’s great, but it’s definitely just a brother sister relationship.
Question: Can you tell us what we can expect from your album and who you’d like to work with?
Scotty McCreery: Yeah, I mean, really I am looking forward to getting my music out there. I’ve already recorded 2 songs this week, and we were deciding which one to release and “Love You This Big” turned out to be the one I sang. The other one excited about also. I hope to have a great album. It’s all about good songs after you win the show. My fans got me where I am at now so I’ve got to get them good songs. Me and Lauren will hopefully get to do a duet.
Question: Why was Ryan Seacrest calling you “Scotty The Body” all season?
Scotty McCreery: He told me early on, it was kind of like a tradition. He’s done it will all the Scotts on the show. It was more like a joke and honestly I’ve been eating too many cookies on the show anyway. I am not in the same shape as I was in my baseball days.
Question: Can you tell us why you got so emotional during your hometown visit?
Scotty McCreery: In the limo, we were driving up to the school and I looked out the window and saw all the familiar faces I’ve missed so long. I rolled down the window and someone said “miss you and love you brother” and that just got me. Because they’re my friends and all the people I love.
Question: When did you notice your voice start changing?
Scotty McCreery: I mean I’ve always kind of sounded the same, except when I was young and high pitched. In Vegas week I really discovered that I could sing higher than I had been singing. I used that a lot in “Gone” and “That’s Alright Momma”. You can say its changed over the competition.
Question: Why did you stick to Country for every performance when others were doing different things?
Scotty McCreery: Everybody has their own niche – Casey had the growly, Jazz going, James had his rock, Jacob had his Gospel and I sang my Country. We all had our own genre to stay too and Country is my thing, it is what I grew up with. I love it and why change a good thing.
Question: How do you feel about your song “Love You This Big” being number one on iTunes today?
Scotty McCreery: Wow! Really? That’s the first I heard, that’s amazing. That is wild, I love the song. The song is just a great song to start off with, when they pitched it to me, I fell in love with it. Last night I was obviously choked up singing it. That is wild -you’re the first to tell me that.
Question: How did you feel going into last night?
Scotty McCreery: My thought was that she wrapped it up when she did that momma song she sang. That was the most beautiful song I have heard. Lauren is sweet, we had been supporting each other throughout this process and we both came out winners last night.
Scotty McCreery ended by thanking all his fans and supporters! Did America get it right? Comment and share your thoughts with us!
