Sharon dished about the show, surviving cancer, and whether or not we can expect to see her on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills anytime soon. Keep reading for more…
America’s Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne took some time out of her super busy schedule yesterday to chat with us in a press conference and a sweet lady she was. Sharon dished on numerous topics, check out her interview below!
Question: Piers said he thought you were a much harder judge this season, is that true?
Sharon Osbourne: I think probably I am definitely harder than I have been in previous years. I am actually comfortable in that position I am in now, you know, a little more judgmental. I am making it more about the talent and not someone’s life story.
Question: With a background in music are you stricter on musical acts?
Sharon Osbourne: When it comes to music I guess I am a lot more stricter. I do require, they have to be at certain level to be taken seriously by me.
Question: Who is your favorite artist that your husband has played with or showed with?
Sharon Osbourne: I would have to say my personal favorite and the group I am the most proud of is Metallica.
Question: Last season Michael and Jackie set the bar high, what impact has that left for this season?
Sharon Osbourne: A lot because you know you strive to get better and better. Their level of professionalism was high and you don’t want to go below that level, you want to go above that level.
Question: What’s the hardest part about being a judge?
Sharon Osbourne: There is more that goes along with being a judge because everyone has got a dream and you don’t want to destroy anyone’s dream, but you don’t want to give false hope at the same time. You don’t want to destroy anyone either because dreams keep people going.
Question: With so many things going on, how do you find balance within your work?
Sharon Osbourne: I don’t. I mess up on a lot of things – you think you can handle it all and you can’t. I will definitely review my next year because I packed things in so tight this year. You can’t do it all at the same level….something has to suffer.
Question: You look amazing, do you have any secrets or tips for looking so great?
Sharon Osbourne: Oh my God no, God no, I wish I did. I’m overweight, 25 lbs overweight and don’t work out. I had a great surgeon – I guess the face worked out pretty good [chuckles].
Question: Is there anything else you would like to accomplish?
Sharon Osbourne: I think to be a better person, I think I am a work in progress but I’d try to be a better person. As far as my personal goals in life, I have reached them all. I never wanted to be number one at everything but I have been blessed – so personally, to be a better person.
Question: There has been a British invasion so to speak on television, what are your thoughts on that?
Sharon Osbourne: There is a kind of British invason here, I think it happens every decade and I think America loves English accents. I think America for English people, is the ultimate goal. Many come over to try and make it and go home again, but I am blessed to be in the lot that has made a dent here. I love this country and I don’t ever want to leave.
Question: Since you seem to be the only sane person on the show, who would you rather live with out of Piers, Howie or Nick?
Sharon Osbourne: That’s a hard question. Nick is a great catch, but I think Mariah would beat the shit out of me. Piers is funny, funny and you know that dry sense of humor, but his wife is pregnant right now and I wouldn’t upset her by moving in. Howie, well he wouldn’t want to touch me so that would not be fun. I think I will stick with my husband.
Question: What are your thoughts on Howie?
Sharon Osbourne: I know Howie because he’s my neighbor, and he is just the funniest, naughtiest guy I have met in years. It made me so happy to do the show with him, we literally live next door to each other.
Question: How does judging America’s Got Talent differ from your other reality television gigs?
Sharon Osbourne: The difference is, and the thing I love about America’s Got Talent is that it is not just singing. The element of surprise is still there for me because you never know what someone is going to do.
Question: What sets America’s Got Talent apart from the rest?
Sharon Osbourne: Like I said because it’s not all about singing. How many times can you hear another rendiition of “Hero”. It is refreshing in the fact that you can hear a little girl sing like an angel and then have a drag queen on the same show. You’re never bored with it because there is always something different – the next act is a totally different genre than the one before.
Question: How is the level of talent this year?
Sharon Osbourne: I think for our show, each season gets better and better. Of course I am going to say it’s better this year because I am on, I am not going put down something I am on. Truly it is packed with amazing talent. Last year was spectacular and this year is just as good.
Question: What act or contestant has inspired you the most in the past six seasons?
Sharon Osbourne: That’s a good question, probably two seasons ago, or three seasons now, we had a lady opera singer who survived cancer and chemo and had her dream – Barbara her name is.
Question: You are always so sweet when critiquing children, do you consider yourself the mother hen of the show?
Sharon Osbourne: I suppose so because I am the oldest [laughs]. I think it is something that comes with age. With the young contestants I think “how would I want my kids to be treated” and you have to be careful when it comes to kids. It takes so much courage for them to get up there.
Question: How did being a cancer survivor change your life?
Sharon Osbourne: It did change my life, it stopped me from being so selfish thinking business was the important thing because it’s not. When you work with people who dedicate their lives to saving others, it makes us realize we are very unimportant when there are doctors and nurses who dedicate their lives to saving others. We are very small.
Question: Can we expect to see you join the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in the future?
Sharon Osbourne: You will never see me on the Beverly Hill Housewives, because I have never been a “housewife”…ever. I have always worked from the age of 15, and I have never been a woman who spends her day deciding between a facial and manicure, that’s not me.
