Dancing With The Stars: A Teary Sugar Ray Leonard Speaks About Being Sexually Abused

June 10, 2011 07:00 AM by Lisa Princ

Dancing with the Stars on ABC fans fell in love with Sugar Ray Leonard last season and after he was eliminated he revealed his sexual abuse. Now, this rough and tough guy explains why he decided to reveal this information in a teary interview. What did he have to say? Keep reading for more…

Dancing With The Stars contestant and boxing legend, Sugar Ray Leonard has spoken out for the first time since he dropped the bombshell about his sexual abuse in his new book. In a recent video interview, the 55 year old star said “I had to get that out because it was killing me inside. I was dying inside. I told no one. I kept this to myself for 37 years. A guy don’t talk about those things, especially me as a fighter. I could have kicked their butts but I didn’t. It was killing me. I’m so glad that I’m releasing this. As painful as it is, it’s okay.”

In an eery passage of his new autobiography, Sugar Ray Leonard revealed “Before I knew it he had unzipped my pants and put his hands and mouth on an area that has haunted me for life.” When he spoke to CNN earlier about this, Sugar Ray got tear filled and almost broke down as he relived the horrific side of what most thought was a glamorous life. In his autobiography, Sugar Ray Leonard also revealed his split personality, his cocaine use, growing up in a home with alcohol abuse, surviving a car crash with his mother and fathering a son – sounds like an interesting read!

Sugar Ray was 15, several years past pubescence, so technically, this was not child abuse.

Such homosexual behavior is common to those claim same-sex attraction excuses their behavior.

Homosexual behavior is endorsed and encouraged by Brad Pitt, Home Depot, Old Navy, many television programs, and our president.

Jim, I’m sorry to say you don’t know what you are talking about. The majority of abuse, including abuse of boys, is done by heterosexuals. There is absolutely no evidence that gays are any more likely to be abusers than anyone else. Sexual assault is all about power and dominating the victim. It’s only secondarily a matter of sexual gratification.

Even if the victim is 15, it’s still child abuse, and it is certainly a felony. It was sexual assault regardless of the ages of the participants, since it was not consensual. Pedophilia technically refers to attraction to prepubescent children, but that’s not a legal distinction. The abuser in this case could be classified as either an ephebophile or a hebephile, depending on your framework. It was still abuse, and it clearly had a long-lasting impact on the man.

I was an amateur boxer as a kid and grew up in Wash., DC back in the 80′s. I had the pleasure of meeting Ray as a kid. He came to my school and spoke at pep rallies. Also, he & his brother “Roger Dodger” (a great fighter in his own right) frequently visited my gym & often gave us pointers on improving our skills. Ray was one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet and a great mentor to us youth at the time. Best wishes CHAMP!!!
