The Bachelorette opens with host Chris Harrison telling the group of remaining bachelors that they will be going to join Ashley on the beautiful beaches of Phuket, Thailand. The guys are totally stoked and are told to pack quickly – it’s wheels up in two hours. In Thailand, Ashley Hebert is still thinking about Bentley’s untimely departure and trying to prepare herself to face the prospect of moving forward and finding love. Keep reading for highlights and to see which men net roses this week…
Ashley admits to the cameras that Bentley was the guy she expected to have there at the end, so now, she really has no one in mind. When the men arrive in Thailand, they learn that Constantine has scored the first one-on-one date – he’s ready to step up, represent, and get a rose. The pair meet under an umbrella, where Ashley informs him they will take a boat out to a private beach, but their guide, dressed in a raincoat, makes a series of gestures suggesting that it’s not going to happen due to the weather. Improvising, Constantine and Ashley wander around to do some sightseeing, shopping, and interacting with locals. They make the most of the rainy day and she’s impressed how he goes with the flow.
Back at their suite, the other bachelors receive a group date card that tells them, “Let’s make the world a better place.” They spend the evening torturing themselves over what might be happening with Constantine and Ashley. JP wants to know who all has kissed her besides him.
During the evening portion of their date, Constantine and Ashley discuss their day. He tells her he is glad he got to know her and connect with her in normal ways. Ashley says she enjoyed herself and felt like she wanted to be next to him all day, but wasn’t sure how he felt. He asks her not to feel insecure. Ashley asks about his relationship history. He admits he hasn’t always been as open to a deep relationship as he is currently. Ashley tells him he’s helped get her back on her feet again – she loves the realness of him. Constantine takes a rose.
Ashley arrives for her group date and tells the men they will be going to help make improvements at an orphanage that was damaged in the tsunami. The group is eager to get to it, but Ryan P rapidly begins to irk the other bachelors who think he is being too bossy. Ben F takes the opportunity to paint flowers on the walls with Ashley and show her his artistic side. When they are finished their work, the kids come and interact with them. They all feel good about helping out.
During the evening, they celebrate with a party and drinks. Ashley and Ben F have a chat – she tells him she was impressed with him today. They share some kisses – she likes his increasing confidence. Ryan P takes her off to talk next. The guys discuss how irritating he has become trying to be the most outgoing and funny all the time. Ryan thinks he gets along great with the other men. He tells Ashley she is beautiful and they agree they have a connection.
Ashley and JP step away from the party to talk – she’s concerned that he was standoffish today. He jokingly asks when his next one-on-one will be, saying that he hasn’t stopped thinking about last week’s. She is surprised, considering he saw her at her worst after Bentley left. They kiss. Ashley loves his magical kisses and thinks he’s one sexy man. Ashley returns to the group and is about to give away the rose when Ryan P steals her away again. The guys call him a big goober. Ashley ends up offering the rose to Ben F. They all go take a dip in the pool.
Back at the suite, Ames gets his one-on-one date card. It says, “It’s more romantic in the rain.”
The next morning, Ashley meets up with Ames, and hopes he will open up. They get on a boat and Ames tells her he’s been there twice before – once to climb the mountains, and once for cooking school! She’s impressed that he just did it spontaneously. They take in the romantic scenery of the islands before getting into a kayak and making their way through twisting, turning caves and tunnels to a beach. They talk about what they’re looking for in a partner and really connect. Ames shows himself to be far more interesting than expected.
In the evening portion of their date, they enjoy a candlelit dinner in a gazebo. Ashley is pleasantly surprised by him once again, as he guides their conversation. Ashley realizes he’s smart, flirtatious, and funny. Ames is also very impressed with Ashley and lets her know that. He gets a rose.
When it’s time for the cocktail party the following night, Ashley feels the need to spend some time with each guy and allay her fears of being hurt again. She takes West Lee aside first – she’s concerned that he’s had a lot to deal with after his wife dying and may not be ready to move forward. He tries to reassure her. Ashley speaks with Lucas next and they discuss his divorce and where he’s at with things now. Meanwhile, Ryan learns that the other guys are irritated by his intensity. He is shocked. When Ryan gets time alone with Ashley, she points out that he seems so happy all the time. Puzzled, he tells her it’s just the way he is, noting that Blake told him the other men can’t stand it.
Ashley goes to speak with Chris Harrison. She admits that she’s still hung up on Bentley because there was really no closure, but says things are starting to change. Ashley asks to bend the rules and only send one guy home tonight instead of two.
Constantine, Ben F, and Ames already have a rose going into tonight’s ceremony. Ashley offers roses to Lucas, Ryan, JP, Nick, Mickey, Blake, William, and Ben C. West is the only one not to receive a rose tonight and will head home.
