The show started out with 12 contestants but now have 11 since Bryce was voted off last week. The contestants’ theatricality is tested this week. Singer-actress Idina Menzel is the guest mentor and watches the participants perform their homework project, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”
Idina likes the routine and tells the remaining 11 what she thought really worked. She selected Alex as the winner of this homework assignment which got him a special one-on-one practice session with her.
Next, it’s time for the task to shoot, perform, and sing Twisted Sister’s metal anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” After recording their parts of the song with Nikki, the contestants have their make-up done and begin to record the video. The idea is that the participants are outcasts in high school and there’s a dream sequence where they imagine themselves as rock stars on stage singing and dancing.
While discussing their tasks, Lindsay and Ellis exchange words leaving Ellis upset and crying. Ellis says that Lindsay constantly picks on her but Lindsay says she has only been trying to help.
The video is complete and Robert along with Zach selects Matheus, McKynleigh and Ellis as the bottom three. They now have a last chance performance for Ryan Murphy. Ellis is given “Mack the Knife;” Matheus is given “Gives You Hell;” and McKynleigh is given Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” The judges say that all three did a good job singing but need to select one of them to go home. The Call Back list isposted and one by one they walk to see if their name is listed. McKynleigh see’s that she made it along with Matheus but for Ellis, it is the end of the road and she is sent home.
