Yesterday we learned of the tragic death of MTV‘s Jackass star Ryan Dunn and shortly after, Ryan Dunn’s fans were outraged by a nasty comment on the web. But what was said and who said it? Read on for more…
Ryan Dunn was tragically killed in a crash yesterday, so why on earth would anyone say something nasty about the star? Apparently, Roger Ebert did as he posted to his Facebook page yesterday: “Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive” leaving Ryan Dunn fans in an outrage and personally I do not blame them – if anyone is a jackass, it is certainly Roger Ebert.
One angry fan commented back to Ebert by saying: “I don’t care who you think you are but don’t make fun of someone’s sudden/tragic death!” and Facebook responded by removing Ebert’s page altogether. Annoyed, Ebert posted on Twitter: “Facebook! My page is harmless and an asset to you. Why did you remove it in response to anonymous jerks? Makes you look bad.” An hour later his Facebook page was restored, much to many folks dismay.
Roger Ebert later posted an apology for his earlier remark and left his condolences for Ryan Dunn’s family and friends, as well as Zachary Hartwell’s family and friends (Zachary was the unidentified person who was killed in the crash with Dunn). However, part of his apology states: “It was not intended as cruel. It was intended as true” – take that as you may, but to us that still seems offensive and I do not blame Dunn fans for being pissed!
As of this time, police are doing an autopsy to see if alcohol had any role in the crash, so Ebert should have kept his big mouth shut. Our condolences go out to the family of Ryan Dunn – he will be missed terribly by many!
