The Race Begins:

Standing in the beautiful backdrop of the Sahara desert, the contestants get introduced to one another and size each other up. The race begins by the teams climbing an enormous sand dune to reach the flag and their next clue.  Erik, from team No Limits, is blind and is climbing up the dune by listening to the sound of bells from his teammate. The Gypsies reach the flag first and receive the first clue.  Chad, from The Country Boys, who looks strong, is struggling to make it up the sand dune. Encouraged by his teammates, Chad gets up but the team is last to grab the flag.

The next step in the desert journey – camels of course!  Teams must now each ride a camel until they reach their next check point.  The heat, 105, combined with stubborn camels doesn’t make this an easy ride. Teams No Limits and Fab 3 reach the check-point first.  Now the contestants face their first challenge, trying to find water in the desert.  Fab 3 begins digging in the sand to find water, unsure of what to do the Gypsies begin to dig too. The two teams actually find water underneath the sand, which impresses the other teams.  Team Latin Persuasion is the last one to reach the water challenge.  Team Latin Persuasion is yelling at each other so much one of the locals actually says, “I would never have these women for my wife!”

Now contestants are challenged to hike through the mountainous terrain -  Fab 3, Team Gypsies, and Football Players are in the lead.  After hiking up the large mountain, they now must repel down over 300 feet.  Team Gypsies are the first down the mountain.  Erik, who is blind, repels down the mountain with ease as others struggle.

After the mountain repel, teams have to watch a snake charmer dance and must determine the number of snakes revealed.  If the team is correct with their number, it’s a five mile hike to the check-in-point. If the team is incorrect, they are directed 30 minutes out of the way and end up at a “wrong way” sign.  Team No Limits is the only team to count the wrong number of snakes and is on their way to the wrong check-point.  Team Gypsies are the winners of stage one of the expedition! Fab 3 comes in second place and Football Players come in third place. Latin Persuasion and Grandpa’s Warriors are in the fight for the final spot.   Both teams are hiking the terrain exhausted and in the pitch black of night. Grandpa’s Warriors charge on and beat out Latin Persuasion. Latin Persuasion finishes in last place, but the women feel accomplished for completing the long and challenging day.
