The Glee Project Recap: The Competitors Search For Their “Vulnerability”

June 26, 2011 07:43 PM by Veronica Dudo

Oxygen’s new reality TV competition, The Glee Project is searching for the next guest character for FOX’s hit series Glee. On tonight’s episode, Dot-Marie Jones is the guest mentor. Keep reading to find out who stayed and who was sent home!

The topic this week is “vulnerability” which casting director Robert Ulrich says is using your own weakness to make your performances better. For their homework assignment, the remaining participants have to perform “Please Don’t Leave Me” for Ulrich and Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Coach Shannon Beastie on Glee. After their performances, Jones selected Matheus as the winner.

Guest mentor Jones announces that the project to work on this week is to sing and record a music video to the song, “Mad World” which is about teenage alienation. The concept is for the participants to pick a name that suits what they’re most vulnerable about. Damian’s word is “Numb,” Alex’s is “Gay,” Marissa’s is “Anorexic,” Hannah’s is “Fat,” McKynleigh’s is “Black or White,” Samuel’s is “Rejected,” Emily’s is “Used,” Lindsay’s is “Fake,” Matheus’ is “Small,” and Cameron’s is “Misunderstood.” At the end of the music video the contestants turn around and they have letters on the back of the signs that they’re wearing which spells “You’re Not Alone.”

It’s now time to select who is safe and who’s in the bottom three. The mentors chose Emily, Damian and Cameron to have the chance to perform last chance performances for Ryan Murphy. The songs selected are “Are You Lonesome Tonight” by Elvis for Damian; “Grenade” by Bruno Mars for Emily and “Your Song” by Elton John for Cameron. Cameron is up first and comes out dressed in a suit and tie and sings the song. Murphy says Cameron is trying to be someone else and tells him to leave the stage, change back into his close and return to the stage to sing it again.

Emily comes out next and gives a riveting performance and the mentors give her praise. Cameron returns to the stage and re-sings his song and the mentors tell him that it sounds and looks much better because he is finally being himself. Lastly, Damian comes out and sings his song, getting very emotional at the end. After the last chance performances the mentors select Emily to go home.
