Masterchef Recap: Gordon Gives Up And Joe Gets Pissed Off

June 27, 2011 07:38 PM by Lisa Princ

Fox‘s Masterchef is back tonight minus Tony as the remaining 15 contestants continue to try and impress the judges. But what makes Gordon Ramsay ready to give up? And who will make the ultimate cooking mistake that sends Joe off the deep end? Read on for all the details of tonight’s episode!

Masterchef kicks off tonight with the remaining 15 contestants, who competed in their second mystery box challenge. This week the mystery box contained rack of lamb, peaches, romanesco cauliflower, feta, fava beans, white rice, chili peppers, creme fresh, heavy cream, tarragon, eggs, and pie crust – what an interesting mix! The contestants really got creative tonight but we also saw some stupid mistakes.

Jennifer got nervous as Graham was asking about how much of the lamb she was actually going to use, causing her to panic at the last minute and attempt to cook her remaining lamb – but would it hurt her? Before Gordon announced the three dishes they would be tasting, he pointed out that Jennifer’s dish really stood out to them – and not in a good way, leading Joe to head over there and blast her! Joe was beyond pissed off as he screamed at her about trying to serve them raw lamb, even stating that if he could, he would send her home right then and there.

Luckily, not all the dishes were that bad. Alejandra was the first one to be tasted as curried rack of lamb with cauliflower steak and peach chutney really impress and Gordon calling it “stunning times four”. Adrien was the next up with his farmers market lamb chop with cauliflower puree that the judges thought was remarkable. Tracy was the last one in the top three with a sweet and salty lamb and feta that Joe said was very “well thought out”. But only one of them could win the challenge and that was Adrien.

Because he won, Adrien got to choose the next ingredients for the elimination challenge. But this time there was a twist – he chose one himself and a different one for everyone else. With the theme being dessert, Adrien chose nuts for his own and coffee for the remaining contestants to cook with – but would it be a good choice?

When it was judgment time, Adrien proved he made the wrong choice as he used every single type of nuts in his chocolate torte which ended up being the “star” of his dish. And the bad recipes kept coming followed by Max, whose sad attempt at a crepe cake did not go over well with the judges. In fact, Gordon compared Max’s dish to a skin graft on from his butt dipped in caramel – yikes!

Alenjandra presented bad tart, which is a shame because she was so strong earlier, followed by Jennie with her raw coffee infused tart. Then Gordon got mad and told everyone how disappointed he was and that he was ready to give up. The judges had expected better out of the contestants at this point in the game.

Luckily for them, the remainder of the dishes went over well, with the exception of Alvin, who coffee filled beignets were bitter – proving that science is not always right. And it cost Alvin as he would be joining Jennie and Max in the bottom three tonight. Jennie was the first one sent back to safety, leaving Max and Alvin up for elimination. While I really thought we would be seeing the last of Max and his cocky attitude, the judges decided that Alvin had more learning to do before he could compete and he was sent packing!
