Country music darling and newlywed Kellie Pickler may have recently walked down the aisle, but the American Idol alum says that she and hubby Kyle Jacobs are in absolutely no rush to start a family, telling CMT Radio’s Cody Allen that having kids has become “like a fad,” and she’s not one for following the leader.
“I don’t think people realize … the responsibility that comes along with it,” Pickler tells Cody Allen in an interview for CMT Radio. “It’s almost like a fad.
“I don’t know what’s gotten into these kids where they feel like they have to have a baby because their friend has one or whatever,” adds the country music star, who rose to fame as a contestant on the Fox reality show, American Idol. “They don’t take into consideration that it’s a very selfish thing to do if you’re not prepared and ready.”
Celebrating her birthday today (Happy Birthday Kellie!), and having only been married for just under 6 months, the 25-year-old says that she and Kyle Jacobs have a relationship that’s strong enough to handle children, but currently, babies just aren’t in their plans.
“I take that very seriously, and when Kyle and I are ready, then we will maybe cross that bridge if it ever gets here,” says Pickler. “Maybe life gives us a surprise, but we’re married and we have stability in our lives, so if that does happen, we are prepared.”
CMT Radio’s Live with Cody Alan airs weeknights from 7pm – 12 am ET.
