Jamawn Woods’ Soul Daddy blew the competition on America’s Next Great Restaurant away. His take on healthy soul food left judges and investors Curtis Stone, Bobby Flay, Lorena Garcia and Steve Ells confident the American public would adjust to the new franchise. All that’s changed, however, as Soul Daddy’s last location in the Mall of America has closed
A statement regarding the earlier closings was released from the team behind Soul Daddy, saying, “The realities of running a restaurant are very difficult, more so with multiple locations in multiple cities. After a careful review of the business model and the performance of the restaurants, we have decided that our best opportunity for Soul Daddy’s success is to focus our efforts on establishing a solid footing in one location, building the brand, and developing the operations from there.”
It looks like focusing on one location just wasn’t cutting it. The Los Angeles and New York locations were closed on June 14th and we have to say we were a little surprised the Mall of America Soul Daddy did not stay open. We were totally planning a trip there soon.
Jamawn Woods beat out Sudhir Kandula’s Spice Coast and Joseph Galluzzi’s The Brooklyn Meatball Co. for the win, but as the reality world of TV goes, it’s just one more prize failure to add to the list.
What do you think of the closing of all the Soul Daddy restaurants? Have you tried the food?
