Piers Morgan Denies Phone Hacking Allegations

July 19, 2011 01:42 PM by Lisa Princ

America’s Got Talent on NBC heads into another round of performances tonight, but the contestants are not the only thing Piers will be battling about. The CNN star has reportedly been accused of phone hacking in which he clearly denies. What’s this all about? Read on for more!

America’s Got Talent judge, Piers Morgan is known for his strong opinions, but is capable of phone hacking? CNN is reporting that Piers Morgan, along with a former editor of two British tabloid newspapers have been facing allegations of phone hacking to which the pair had called “nonsense.” According to the site, lawmakers are investigating claims that News Corp.’s News of the World tabloid hacked phones and that journalists paid police for confidential information, but Piers denies any involvement in the scam and says he, in fact, may have been the victim of phone hacking.

The paper, which was controlled by Rupert Murdoch, has since been shut down, but the allegations are still flying. Louise Mensch, a Conservative member of Parliament on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, was the one who made the allegations during a hearing before the committee Tuesday and went on to add that in Piers Morgan’s book “The Insider”, he revealed little tricks and secrets into the world of phone hacking. Piers defended his book by taking to Twitter stating: “That MP just claimed I boasted in my book of using phone-hacking for a scoop. Complete nonsense. Just read the book. I’ve never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, or published any stories based on the hacking of a phone.”

Piers Morgan spoke on his show about this by claiming that the paper was not run by Murdoch during the time in which he was employed there. He went on to say that he does not believe that any story published by him was gained in an unlawful manner and added: “nor have I seen anything to suggest that.” Do you think Piers Morgan had any involvement in the phone hacking? Anyone who appears on, or watches, “America’s Got Talent” deserves what he gets. But if Morgan can’t figure out that he cannot objectively cover this story, his editors need to. Whether Morgan personally hacked into people’s cell phones or medical records is unclear, but he certainly exploited the Prime Minister’s tragedy for his own financial gain, using Murdoch’s hold over politicians for his own gain.
