So You Think You Can Dance kicks off the top 10 performance show as Cat Deeley announces that the top 10 will be performing one solo and one routine with an all star performer. Joining Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy tonight on the judging panel was Neil Patrick Harris, star of “How I Met Your Mother.” All of the solos were just that – quick solos that were not judged, but showcasing some moves for each contestant. The real fun was in the coupled all star performances and below is how they did tonight!
Marko was up first tonight and he would be paired with all star Chelsie Hightower for a Samba by Jason Gilkinson. It was great to see Chelsie again and she looked as stunning as ever. Marko held his own on the floor though with this routine – and what a sexy routine it was. Neil was up first and thought they were amazing while Mary kicked off by screaming with glee, telling Marko that she will not be surprised if he is in the finale. Nigel ended by saying that Marko is “ahead in the field” and now “dancing with the stars.”
Sasha took the stage with all star, Twitch for a Christopher Scott Hip Hop routine about rekindling the flame. During rehearsals, Twitch said he needed to keep up his game or he would be outdanced by Sasha! This routine was on fire, these two were perfect together and had most of the audience standing after the performance. Nigel Lythgoe was speechless at first, but then went on to say that he saw chemistry between the pair as she nailed it as well. Neil Patrick Harris thought it was the best routine of the night while Mary called Sasha an all star tonight.
Jordan was paired up with season 5′s Brandon as her all star tonight, and the pair would be performing a Dwight and Desmond “love story” routine. Brandon and Jordan put on a beautiful and romantic routine that melted our hearts. The judges loved them with Mary saying they were amazing and that Jordan was fantastic. Nigel commended Dwight and Desmond first and then told Jordan that she didn’t have many weaknesses, followed by telling the audience to wake up and vote for this girl. Neil Patrick Harris loved the routine telling Jordan that he could not take his eyes off her the entire time.
Next up on So You Think You Can Dance was Tadd, who was paired up with all star Comfort for a Chuck Maldonado Hip Hop routine. Chuck was hoping to spotlight Tadd and this performance definitely showcased Tadd’s strong abilities. Despite some cute disagreements about Tadd’s swag or lack of, I think Comfort was eating those words after the performance. The judges enjoyed it as Nigel started saying the performance was as fast as Mary Murphy talking, but then got serious and told Tadd that he out danced his all star. Neil said it was amazing and then revealed that he wished he could do those moves while Mary told Tadd that he hit it out of the ballpark.
Mitchell was up next with his all star, season one’s Melody with a Broadway/Jazz routine about flight by Tyce Diorio. This routine was perfectly choreographed and it was a very entertaining performance, but it seemed a bit cheesy to us. Neil started off saying he did not get it at all, while Mary said it was very entertaining but they did not do it well, calling it overdone. Nigel Lythgoe thought it needed more thought in it about style instead of overperforming.
Caitlyn was paired with Pasha tonight for her all star Tango routine choreographed by Leonardo and Miriam about a 1930′s couple who regained their spark. The pair came out looking stunning and sure showed us some fancy footwork, it was spot on. The judges loved it so much, that Mary gave it a standing ovation and saying that Caitlyn was breathtaking. Nigel told her she looked like a woman instead of a girl tonight and that the routine was beautiful. Neil said though it started off slow for him, he felt like he was watching greatness and this routine made him want to learn the Argentine Tango.
Jess was paired with Kathryn for a Stacey Tookey Contemporary routine about not seeing what is right in front of you. During this routine, Jess would have to tackle his greatest issue – lifts, but could he do it? Yes, he actually did get all the lifts and the performance was good, although Kathryn did not look to thrilled to be back. The judges had mixed reviews with Neil reminding Jess about his facial expressions and how he needs to be real. Mary loved it and Nigel did as well as he said it was Jess’s best work to date.
Pasha was back on stage with Melanie for a Jason Gilkison routine about guy who has lost his will to live and gets the strength from his friend – Melanie is getting a lot of these types of routines lately, isn’t she? It was a beautiful routine that made Melanie seem like she was just floating across the stage. The judges loved it as Mary was in awe over how well Melanie performs in general, telling her she is at the top in the competition. Nigel said it was a beautiful flow of movement and that Melanie is a solid, brilliant dancer. Neil was amazed at how effortless and perfect it was.
Ricky was up next on So You Think You Can Dance and he was paired up with Allison Holker for his all star. The couple would be taking on a Tyce Diorio routine about a powerful dream and it was performed to perfection. This pair worked beautifully together in this powerful routine that had the judges in awe. Nigel loved it and told Ricky how he should be impressed that his eyes were on Ricky as well as Allison, while Neil said that he was impressed even though he was prepared to not get it. Mary closed saying that Ricky really brought it tonight in his passion and intensity.
Clarice was paired with all star Robert for a Bollywood number by Nakul Dev Mahajan about a game of cat and mouse. This was a really fun routine to watch, but Bollywood routines normally are. Clarice did a great job and had the judges in a standing ovation. Neil was up first and he gushed that he loved it and how infectious it was. Mary Murphy said it was so much fun and she thought it was a perfect fit for Clarice. Nigel closed saying he didn’t think she could have done it any better, it was that perfect.
