Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition Recap: 445 Pound Krista McFall Tries To Drop Her Extra Weight In The Finale

July 25, 2011 09:12 PM by Veronica Dudo

ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition tonight featured a 445 pound mother attempting to lose weight to get healthy and be there for her young daughter, who had a seizure in 2006. Can Trainer Chris Powell help her overcome her obstacles? Keep reading to find out more about her transformation in the season finale!

Krista McFall became an emotional eater after her father passed away when she was only eight years old. Since then, she has battled her weight. Now, she has a daughter of her own and wants to get healthy so she can be there to take care of her daughter who has a lot of health issues. During a family dinner, Chris shows up to tell Krista she has been selected for the show. She is surprised and excited as Chris tells her to pack her bags for Boot Camp in Los Angeles.

After her initial weigh-in at 445 pounds, Chris puts Krista through her first workout. He pushes her through the exercises even though she doesn’t think she is capable of completing what he wants her to do. Meanwhile, Krista’s house is transformed into a healthier one.

Krista’s Phase One three month goal is to lose 100 pounds. Chris tells her if she can lose the weight, then he will get her a car. Krista works hard every day with Chris working out. He even has her push a car around the Texas Motor Speedway which is a 1.5 mile track. Later, Chris tells Krista that he knows she didn’t have her dream wedding, so at the end of the year he will buy her a wedding dress so she can renew her wedding vows with her husband. It’s now time for Krista’s three month weigh-in. Chris tells her he got her the car she pushed around the speedway and it’s hers if she lost the weight. Krista now steps on the scale which reads 340 so Krista gets the car.

In Phase Two, Chris leaves and Krista is on her own. Chris calls and emails her but she refuses to answer. Chris decides to pay Krista a visit to see what’s happening. When he gets there Krista first has lots of excuses for Chris’ questions then admits she is tortured everyday by worrying about her daughter and whether or not she is going to wake up in the morning. Chris asks her if she is willing to talk to someone about these issues and she agrees. Chris has Krista weigh herself so they can see where she’s now at after her breakdown. Krista has gained back 25 pounds in three weeks. Shortly after, Krista decides to get back on track and hits the gym hard.

It’s now time for her weigh-in and Krista needs to lose 60 pounds. She steps on the scale and it reads 295 pounds so she didn’t make her goal. But, Chris takes Krista to Disneyland in California to run a 13 mile race. Krista starts the race with Chris but after a couple of miles she starts to get extremely tired and says she has a cramp. Chris encourages Krista to start jogging again for her daughter who is rooting on the sidelines. Krista finds the strength to go on and continues the race at a steady jog then crosses the finish line.

In an at home interview, Krista shares that her daughter had a seizure and they had to rush her to the hospital. Krista and her daughter are now home with a monitor. Krista says in light of this stress she’s not sure what her future holds.

It’s now time for her nine month weigh-in. Krista’s Phase Three goal was to lose 75 pounds. She gets on the scale and it reads 325 pounds, therefore Krista actually gained 30 pounds. Back in the gym, Chris pushes Krista extra hard to make up for her weight gain.

It’s now time for her final weigh-in, where family and friends gathered to see Krista’s big reveal. Krista comes out and looks great. Chris has her get on the scale and it reads 265 pounds therefore she lost 180 pounds in one year. Now, it’s time for Krista to get into her dream wedding dress and renew her vows. Krista says despite the ups and downs she has endured she is proud of her weight loss and will continue her journey.

I wish Krista all the luck in the world. She did a fantastic job during rough times. Keep going girl! I’m glad she has such a supportive husband and a chance to have a beautiful wedding. But I have a hard time believing that she could get into a size 18 wedding dress though at her final weight.

There’s absolutely no way that dress was a size 18, and there is no way a 265 lb person can fit into a size 18. I admire what Chris does, but this has turned me off of the show. I expect better out of Chris and ABC.

I also admire all that Chris has done for all his clients, but agree that there is no way that Krista could have fit into that dress at 265 lbs, so there’s no way she was a size 18 at the finale. It really disappointed me when they didn’t mention anything about that fact, though it was part of her goal. I really think they need more psychological help for these people rather than just offering Chris’ help with nutrition and training…from experience, I know there are so many issues that come up for someone when they are no longer able to medicate with food. It seems they’d do much better in the long run with some therapy thrown into the mix and possibly continued as long as necessary after the final weigh in.

I completely agree 100% with Evelyn and had she not said anything I would have. There is NO way someone who weighs 265 is a size 18. I am 200 lbs and am NOWHERE near an 18!!!!!
