Project Runway Brings Back Fan Favorite Voting For Season Nine

July 29, 2011 05:57 AM by Lisa Princ

Last night, Lifetime aired the season nine premiere of Project Runway, and as Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum got back into the swing of things, fans got the return of fan favorite voting as well as some other changes! Read on for more…

Project Runway returned last night with their new season, and this year the show has added some changes. If you missed any of the excitement last night, we also saw a “casting” episode prior to the season opener, in which 20 contestants were featured, all fighting for a spot on the series. The casting special, which was a first for the show, gave the judges a bigger role in the audition process for the show. Nina Garcia, a judge for the series, said of the new process with the designers: “we got to speak to them, we got to look at their clothes, we got to touch their clothes, we got to find out where they were from, what they had done, what kind of experience they had.”

But that is not all, the show has also brought back fan favorite voting – with a different twist. The fan favorite award gives a $10,000 prize to the designer who receives the most votes during the season, but this year the voting will be via Twitter. Each designer has been given their own Twitter hashtag, and on every episode when a designer is shown on camera, their hashtag will appear. Every time someone Tweets using that hashtag, it will be considered a vote for that particular designer. Each week, we will get a rundown of who is in the lead at the end of the episode, but you can also check Project Runway’s page for the current standings.
