The Glee Project Recap: The Cast Gets Comfortable With Their Sexuality

July 31, 2011 08:50 PM by Veronica Dudo

Sexuality is the theme for the contenders who are pushed further than they ever have been before! The Glee Project faces a major “first” in the competition! Keep reading to find out what happens!

Only six of the original twelve participants are left in the competition including Alex Newell, Cameron Mitchell, Damian McGinty Jr., Hannah McIalwain, Lindsay Pearce, and Samuel Larsen.

On tonight’s episode of Oxygen’s The Glee Project, Glee’s newest couple Puck and Zizes, portrayed by Mark Salling and Ashley Fink are the guest mentors. The contestants must perform “Like A Virgin” for the guest mentors and are told to embrace their “sexuality” as they sing the song. They give it all they’ve got and Salling and Fink are surprised by the performance and pick Samuel as the winner of the homework project challenge.

Next, the contestants learn that their main challenge will be to shoot a music video to Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” The six participants are paired off and given story lines. Alex and Samuel must jam in a garage; Damian and Lindsay are the typical high school jock and cheerleader; and Cameron and Hannah must create a flirty food fight in a kitchen.

The participants begin to work on their choreography for the music video. Damian says he is a little worried because he isn’t the greatest dancer. Heading into the video shoot, Samuel and Cameron both reveal their fears: Samuel says his mom is Christian and wouldn’t be very happy to see him playing a homosexual character while Cameron doesn’t want to be physical with any of the girls on the show because he has a girlfriend.

In the recording studio the contenders go in one by one to go over their parts of the song. Nikki Anders senses that Cameron has some reservations about shooting the music video and she suggests he separate himself from the character he is playing.

It’s now time for the video shoot. The three pairs go over their steps and begin to shoot their scenes. A suggestion is made to Cameron to kiss Hannah if he wants to but he chooses not to.

It’s now time for judges Robert Ulrich and Zach Woodlee to select the bottom three. After reviewing the contestants’ work Alex, Cameron, and Damian are selected to be in the bottom three. They now have the chance to redeem themselves in the last-chance performances. Alex is given “I will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor; while Cameron must sing “Blackbird” by the Beatles and Damian performs the classic “Danny Boy.”

At the end of Cameron’s performance, he tells Ryan Murphy that in moving forward he doesn’t think he should stay in the competition because he has boundaries. Ryan asks Cameron if he is leaving the show and he says yes. Ryan, Zach and Robert discuss the situation and Ryan says he would like to write a character based on Cameron’s beliefs. Ryan goes to talk to Cameron and tells him they will respect his limitations but Cameron says he believes it’s best for him to go. The judges had already selected Damian to go home but since Cameron leaves on his own terms, Damian gets another shot at his dream.
