More Survivor Seasons Coming To DVD!

August 04, 2011 09:00 AM by Ryan Haidet

It was a surprise when it was announced on Amazon.com that Survivor: Africa, Survivor: Marquesas and Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains would be released on DVD.  It has now been nearly one year since seasons three and four were released with no news about any other seasons of Survivor getting a potential DVD street date — until now…

Entertainment Weekly posted a story reporting that CBS Home Entertainment is planning to release Survivor: Thailand and Survivor: The Amazon (seasons five and six) on DVD via Amazon.com.  The EW story also indicates that pre-orders for both sets should start later on this week.  Although no official release date was mentioned, the EW article states that the discs should be available in September.  With these releases, that now means the first 10 seasons of Survivor will be on DVD.

But this announcement comes as no big surprise.  A few weeks ago while I was surfing around Amazon.com, I noticed something interesting.  DVD cover art was posted for several seasons of Survivor, including Survivor: Thailand, Survivor: The Amazon, Survivor: Guatemala, Survivor: Panama — Exile Island, Survivor: Cook Islands and Survivor: Fiji.  There was no further information offered for any of those items except for the typical option to sign up for an e-mail alert when the titles are set to be released.

When I posted my discovery on a Facebook Survivor fan site, instant speculation struck.  Many fans were immediately skeptical to believe the image additions on Amazon.com proved those seasons would soon be unleashed.  Many fans started chatting about the topic, with one in particular noting that the posted cover art were simply fan creations that landed on Amazon.com.

It didn’t take long before I started getting e-mails from folks asking me to confirm if the DVDs were actually going to be a reality.  So, I reached out to CBS and I received a response on June 21.  It simply stated they were waiting for a formal announcement to be made while also indicating there are plans to move forward in releasing more seasons of Survivor on DVD.

Are you excited by this announcement?  Which season would you like to see next on the DVD production line?
