Lindsay Pearce Opens Up About Her Dream To Be On Glee And Why America Has The Wrong Impression Of Her

August 18, 2011 10:00 AM by Veronica Dudo

The Glee Project’s final four are competing for a guest starring role on FOX’s hit TV show Glee. The contestants are Alex Newell, Damian McGinty Jr., Lindsay Pearce, and Samuel Larsen. With the finale just a few days away, Lindsay opens up about her most memorable moment on The Glee Project; what it’s really like working with Glee creator, Ryan Murphy; and her dream Glee character!

What was your most memorable moment from The Glee Project?
“Sing” was probably one of my favorite memories of the show definitely.

What was the most important thing you have learned on the show?
I learned that hard work definitely always pays off but I kind of learned that being imperfect is ok and that it makes a person human and it makes them vulnerable and relatable. I kind of learned to stop trying so hard to be right and perfect when being real is better.

If you could create your own dream Glee character for yourself, who would it be?
I always kind of wanted to play that ugly duckling like a raggedy Cinderella kind of kid that’s really awkward and doesn’t really have a lot of confidence in herself but then joins New Directions and then Will Schuester kind takes her under his wing and lets her bloom.

What’s been the hardest moment for you on The Glee Project, where you had to push through and continue in the competition?
I felt like my hardest moment was “Maybe This Time” last chance performance. Going in thinking it was just another musical audition where you’re just bright and peppy and trying to get the role that you want and not getting shot down but definitely getting a good talking to; it was hard to hear but very needed.

What has been the reaction from fans?
Crazy awesome! There’s always more love than there is hate and that’s what I love about all this.

What was the best advice you received on the show?
To be myself and remember that theatre and film are two different mediums.

How has it been to meet the creators, writers, and actors from Glee and perform for them?
We were really lucky we got kind of a taste of what Glee would be like. We got to work with everybody that works on Glee and so it definitely was a boot camp, initiation into being in the Glee club.

Now watching the episodes back, is there anything that’s been aired that has surprised you?
I was a bit shocked to hear that Ryan had been wanting to cut me since he first saw me but it is what it is–he’s just a very honest guy and I understood why he would want to I suppose based on what he’d seen but I’m glad that I was able to stay.

You have gone through a lot professionally and personally on the show–how accurately were you portrayed?
I think Alex and I got the short end of the stick on that one but it should all be good in the end. There’s good moments and there’s bad moments for everyone–it’s always good in the end.

What is it really like to be slushied?
It’s awesome!
