Expedition Impossible Recap: Season Finale!

August 25, 2011 07:36 PM by Megan Thompson

Tonight is the season finale of ABC’s hit show, Expedition Impossible. Will the Gypsies continue to dominate and take home the grand prize? Keep reading to find out which team crosses the finish line first!

The four teams sit down and share a meal together and reminisce about their past expeditions.  With the Gypsies winning eight out of the nine competitions, they are pretty confident in their skills.

The Race Begins:

The contestants are told one team will be eliminated half-way through the day, leaving only three teams.  Now the teams are off on the final leg of the race.

First teams head to row boats and begin paddling.  Ike, from No Limits, is excited to be resting his ankle while he is the boat.  The Football Players are having difficulty rowing and it puts them into last place.  The Football Players boat is practically capsizing, because its taking on so much water. The Gypsies are first to arrive at the next clue, with Fab 3 not far behind.

The challenge involves shoveling a huge pile of rocks and sifting them to try to find two stones that have crystals in them.  Fab 3 and the Gypsies are neck and neck at the challenge, but the Gypsies find the crystals first.  Team No Limits and The Football Players are the last two teams on the challenge.   No Limits finds their last crystal and moves ahead of the Football Players.

Teams must now ride three and half miles on horses to the next check-point.  The last team to arrive on the horses will be eliminated.  As usual, the Gypsies arrive first at the mid-day check-in point.  Fab 3 is the second team, leaving No Limits and Football Players to fight it out.  Ouch! Akbar, from The Football Players, is thrown off his horse.  He is in a lot of pain, but continues on.  No Limits is the third team to arrive!  It’s now time for The Football Players to leave the desert.

Down to The Final Three Teams:

Teams must drive over twenty miles through the desert to find their next clue.  All the teams are very close and arrive to the clue within seconds of each other.  The teams must now run through a crowded Moroccan marketplace to reach their next clue.  Fab 3 is right behind the Gypsies and are just running after them.

The Gypsies arrive first at the next challenge.  The teams are given maps and must navigate through the town to find a secret door.  No Limits catches up to the other teams, but quickly realize they missed the last check-in point and therefore don’t have a map.  The team must now navigate back to try to find the map.

The Gypsies and Fab 3 keep stopping and asking the local people for directions because they are so lost.  Fab 3 takes a chance and separates themselves from the other two teams, but they are more confused.  The Gypsies finally get their bearings and find the hidden door.  Team No Limits seeks the help of a young girl who leads them directly to the door.

The Gypsies are the first to arrive at the next clue, where the teams must unlock a Moroccan box. The wooden box is more like an intricate puzzle.  The Gypsies and No Limits are at this last challenge, but Fab 3 is nowhere to be found.  Jeff, from Team No Limits, is excited because he knows how to open the puzzle box!  The Gypsies open their box first, but No Limits quickly opens their box too. It is going to be another race to the finish line.  First the teams must climb up a ladder and head to the finish.  The Gypsies are up the ladder first – but wait!  Erik on team Gypsies realizes that he left his backpack down on the ground.  This is going to be close, but the Gypsies climb the wall first and see the finish line.  The Gypsies win Expedition Impossible!  The team wins the grand prize, which is $150,000 and three cars.  Team No Limits finishes in second place and they are happy with that!  This team truly lived up to their name!    Finally Fab 3 crosses the finish line hand-in-hand.  The team is sad that they lost, but Fab 3 does feel like they accomplished a lot in this race.

I love The amazing race, 10/10 for me .. one of my favorite shows … i actually watch every episode twice on consecutive days, that’s how much I love it ! Expedition impossible was like a pale copy. Still good of course but I wasn’t really that excited about the show. I would give it a 5/10. The challenges often seemed a li’ bit boring and repetitive plus it was always one team following another, watching when they can’t figure it out, copying what they are doing, etc. I would watch a 2nd season though, it wasn’t terrible but really not as intense as the amazing race. Plus they should have given more money to the teams, what was the incentive to finish the legs in first place ?? To get a 3 minute head start on the next leg ?? Wow ! The winners should have received a nice prize each leg and at least double the final prize, it just seemed a lil’ bit cheap considering everything the teams went through …

The Gypsies and No Limits are the best two teams!
Fab 3 doesn’t even come close at all. In fact, they don’t even deserve to be 3rd. So much whining, complaining, swearing, yelling – I just hate to see them on the show every week! Their attitude (especially that of AJ who yakked, whined non-stop, and made stupid decisions and mistakes) sucked so much so they should just be sent home after day 1. Enuf’ said. Gypsies and No Limits, you guys are the real champions, true winners!

I watched the first episode and turned it off half-way through and from then on was content just to read the recaps online. “E:I” tried to be “The Amazing Race” but had none of its charm and excitement. There was no doubt that the Gypsies were going to win. After that it was more along the lines of “Which of the other teams gets eliminated THIS week?” I truly see the first season of “Expedition Impossible” as its last and is fated to join “Treasure Hunters” on the cancellation pile as yet another sub-par “Amazing Race” clone.

My wife and I both loved the show. Much better then the Amazing Race. We liked how physical the challenges were. Look forward to another season of it.

Loved the show, please bring it back next season. Fab 3 was my favorite team btw. They proved to the world that who you sleep with behind closed doors has absolutely nothing to do with ability. Hey, they beat the Football Players and The Cops and finished 3rd in a competition that was beyond run-of-the-mill.
