The third leg of The Food Network reality show pulls into Denver, Colorado where the teams must forage for their ingredients and run their trucks with just one person. As The Great Food Truck Race teams scramble to stay in the game, they are given instructions from a couple famous faces. To find out who will continue across country and who is sent home keep on reading.
As all the food trucks meet up outside Denver, Colorado, The Great Food Truck Race host Tyler Florence introduces them to Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, who is doing a story on them. Tyler then instructs each team to create an original dish with mushrooms they must find themselves and other ingredients he gives them. Respected Denver chef Frank Bonanno judges the Truck Stop competition. After tasting all the creations, Frank chooses The Lime Truck as the winner of the challenge. As a reward, The Lime Truck will be interviewed by the Denver ABC affiliate to promote their location for the next challenge.
The teams are told they have zero money for the next challenge, with the exception of Lime, who is given $200 to plan their Denver menu. Lime and Hodge Podge decide to partner up for the challenge. Scrambling to find ingredients on no budget, the Seabirds appeal to a local shop to loan them money for their ingredients, while Café Con Leche teams up with local restaurant Cuba Cuba and Korilla BBQ reaches out to another local spot for help. The other teams use their Denver contacts for assistance.
On the first day of the competition, Lime promotes both their truck and Hodge Podge in their ABC interview, but they have trouble opening. After losing some customers to Hodge Podge, Lime finally opens with an expensive menu. Meanwhile, Café Con Leche prices their sandwiches at $15 and is later presented with an invoice for their start up ingredients, which causes concern for their bottom line. Roxy’s sets up in Washington Park during Denver’s Furry Scurry dog event, while the vegan Seabirds take a long time to get their orders out, forcing them to give a few refunds. Elsewhere, Korilla BBQ secures a great location, which attracts a big crowd.
Day two sees Hodge Podge crashing Roxy’s profitable Washington Park spot. As the teams prepare to open, Tyler enlists former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway to deliver the speed bump. John Elway tells each The Great Food Truck Race team that only one of them can run the truck while the other two sit on the bench. While Stephanie from Seabirds take a long time prepping, the other teams are already up and running. Korilla and Roxy’s both make a location change near Café Con Leche, which unsettles the benchwarmers.
In the end, Tyler announces that by making $6,919, Lime Truck won the Denver, Colorado competition. Korilla BBQ comes in second place making $6,831, Hodge Podge comes in third place with $6,118 and Roxy’s trails in fourth place, but remains safe with $5,316. Tyler has to give the bad news to Café Con Leche, who made $3,235, that they are being sent home. They missed fifth place, which went to Seabirds, by just $87. The remainder of the teams are told week four’s stop will be in Manhattan, Kansas.
