Lacey Schwimmer Disappointed In The Negativity Toward Chaz Bono

September 01, 2011 10:15 AM by Lisa Princ

Lacey Schwimmer of Dancing With The Stars on ABC has already begun defending her newest dance partner, Chaz Bono, as angry comments are swirling the web about the transgender contestant. Yesterday, Lacey Schwimmer took to Twitter to defend Chaz, and now she has revealed her disappointment in the negativity towards to Chaz Bono. Read on to hear what Lacey had to say!

Yesterday, after we finally learned the pairings for Dancing With The Stars season 13, Lacey Schwimmer quickly took to her Twitter page to boast about Chaz Bono, and also defend him to all his haters as she posted: “Why people feel it’s OK to judge, bully and harass others for being themselves is beyond me. Shame on you people!” That, however, has not stopped the negativity toward Chaz Bono, as ABC is being flooded with negative comments about having a transgender on the show this season.

Despite all the negative comments, Chaz Bono also has an outpouring of support, with his biggest supporter (besides his mom) being Lacey Schwimmer. Lacey revealed that she is disappointed in the bigoted reactions posted on ABC’s site, and added of the negativity: “No human is perfect, so why are they pointing out what they perceive to be an imperfection in someone else? It’s not cool. We’re all taught to not bully, or harass, and treat everyone as equals yet all these people are doing exactly the opposite.”

Lacey Schwimmer is absolutely thrilled to have Chaz Bono as her dance partner, as she also stated: “I was absolutely thrilled. I’ve always been a huge supporter of the LGBT community and I couldn’t be more excited to have Chaz. Not only is he Sonny and Cher’s child but he’s also a generally cool person.” We’re glad the pair are hitting it off, but what about Chaz Bono’s dance moves? Lacey goes on to reveal: “He’s picking up choreography very easily, but his stamina was very low. So we’ve been putting him through drills that will make him stronger in the competition. It’s all about him being able to breathe and get through a full dance.”

What do you think of the Lacey/Chaz pairing? Which couple are you looking the most forward to this season on Dancing With The Stars? Do you think he has a shot at winning? Comment and share your thoughts with us!

A pity the network has chosen to promote this “person” on one of my favorite shows. I imagine that I’ll have to do something other with my time since I won’t be watching this program.
Oh… and for the record, PLEASE don’t refer to this Bono character as being of the male gender.
Granted, Bono decided not to participate or other wise live as a female, but NO amount of hormone therapy, surgeries, or any manner of hocus-pocus could make Bono into a male. She opted not to “be” female… so I suppose that defines Bono as an “it” with no recognizable gender.
Not being mean, just stating the obvious.
To be fair to the other competitors, Bono should be paired up with a biological male that has chosen a similar fate.

Kudos to Lacey for her public support of her dance partner, Chaz Bono. She obviously is a caring individual that faced bigotry head on. In this world we need more people to stand up to the hate and prejudice that pollutes this world. Chaz, transgender or not, is a human being who decided to be who he knows he wants to be. That is being true to oneself.

I think Chaz being on is fabulous. WHY would anyone CARE about the personal identity of someone else unless they were uncomfortable with themselves. Chances are that unless you knew about this transgendered matter, you would never know. Certainly not as a matter of course in a casual conversation. I say let everyone get on with their lives, their dreams, their hopes and their potential… that includes the naysayers, unless they do harm (physically or verbally) to others. And with Chaz and Lacey, this HARMS no one.

I love Lacey — she’s one of my favorites. And Chaz is super smart, very cool and a hero to me. He’s very brave to get out there and (1) tackle ballroom, which seems to be very difficult, and take on the haters, which we know are plentiful. I don’t think they’ll make it far in the show, but I look forward to the pairing and hope they make it far.

Just what Chaz Bono needs to melt some pound off!! He will be much better looking man. I hope people will knock off the negativity. I will enjoy the show more if they do that.
By the way I am a former Arthur Murray dance teacher and let me tell you, we rarely danced to music with vocals!! Driving me crazy. Just the music for dancing, PLEEEEZ…

I’m not a fan of “Dancing with the Stars,” but all the talk surrounding this Chez Bono contestant has struck my curiosity. Quite frankly, I’m dumbfounded as to why people care so much about this person’s sexuality. Their sexuality has absolutely NOTHING to do with their ability to dance. The show is about dancing; it has nothing to do with sexuality – so I don’t understand why this person is receiving so much criticism and negativity. It seems that the people who are negatively criticizing this person are doing so because they view transgenderism as some sort of repugnant ‘flaw.’ To that/them, I say, how dare they! We all are flawed human beings, and who’s to say that transgenderism is a flaw? Whether you think it is or it isn’t – IT SHOULDN’T MATTER. People should be viewed by the actions of their character and not by anything else. The people who are criticizing this person don’t even know this person, so what right do they have to speak? The only criticizing people should be doing is criticizing their performance and the season hasn’t even begun, so quite frankly, people need to shut up.

Chaz Bono; I was shocked, amazed, and anxious to watch the competition.
I am more concerned with his weight than anything else. Not a criticism, just a fact. I too am over weight, but less than Chaz. I struggle with endurance simply doing chores around the house.

Best of luck. Once again, Chaz has demonstrated extreme fortitude to come out and be himself.

What I am most irritated about is the fact that everyone, all the media groups, all the articles and commentary refer to Chaz as a ‘he’. Cher did not give birth to a son. If you take the DNA, it WILL show Chaz is a FEMALE. You can undergo whatever surgery you want, shoot yourself full of steroids til you pop…. but it will not change who are are. She’s a transgender, but SHE is still as SHE!

  17. Guest Says:
    September 1st, 2011 at 2:34 pm

“HE” isn’t a ‘he’. Chaz is, was, and always will be a female. I don’t care what they’ve removed or how many drugs she’s been shot up with. Her DNA will always indicate the sexual orientation is FEMALE.

I’m disappointed again with the show’s choises. It’s not the transsexual thing, it’s having someone that is not a star. Just like last season with Sahara Palin’s daughter. She’s not a star. Why call it Dancing With the Stars when your putting people on there that are not stars. Is there a shortage of stars that want to be on this show. Is it because it’s so demanding? I know I couldn’t do it,but lets try and keep it to the real stars.

  21. Taylor Says:

I cannot BELIEVE how many people are getting all upset over Chaz Bono being on the show. He’s still a human being, regardless of what gender he was born. So what, he’s transgendered. It’s 2011, get over yourselves. I support Lacey in her fight against the hateful comments said about one of our OWN kind. Respect other like you would want to be respected.

I too have never really had the interest in watching this show, but will make an effort to do so in support of those people who may be different or unique, whether they choose to be or not.

I watched the documentary regarding Chaz’ struggles as some might call them, or transformation, and found him to be a very fun, sincere, kind person. I will definitely enjoy watching him dance, as well as listening to what he might have to say. To all the self-annointed Judge Judy’s out there (no offense Judge Judy), turn your TV off, and stay in your own little perfect dream world. We don’t need your ignorance.

Kudos also to his mother for her support, and shame on you biggots who claim to be Christians, but judge more than Judge Judy. You don’t really care about anyone, do you?

  24. Lisa Says:

It’s a shame in this day and age that such bigotry and ignorance still exist in this country.
On the flip side it’s hilarious that these bigots choose to display outrage over what is basically a game show contestant selection.
But typical lashing out from someone who can’t comprehend why their own life does not measure up to someone they perceive as “beneath” them. Got to try and drive ‘em down so they can feel better about their own sad little lives.

I think that you deserve a reward for saying it like it is!!!!! Congrats to you Lacey!!! I think that people need to leave others alone. Afterall it is not you,is it? Everybody has their own feelings and no one else’s. People have no right to judge anyone but themselves! I always said”Until you have walked in my shoes, you have no right to even think about judging me”. And ths goes for Chaz Bono also. I say “If he is happy, then I am happy for him.” Good Luck this year. I will be watching every show!! Love you all.

My biggest regret with regard to Chaz Bono competing is one that has been an issue in several past seasons. People are already deciding that they will or will not vote for Bono though they have never seen him dance.
This is (or at least should be) first and foremost a dance competition, so if he can dance let him do so. If he can’t, then he should get an early boot. All the rest is just fodder for ratings!

Isn’t the title of the show “Dancing With the Stars”. Besides the obvious, what has this person done to make them a star in any field. Athletes, musicians and actors I understand but being the child of someone famous, or sibling of a step child of someone famous ( can you say Kardashian) does NOT make you a star. I stopped watching this show 2 seasons ago and if there was any chance of my family watching this season it’s gone.

    Wow, Jim…

“A pity the network has chosen to promote this “person” on one of my favorite shows.”
~Why “person”? Chaz is indeed a human being, whether you like him or not.

“I imagine that I’ll have to do something other with my time since I won’t be watching this program.”
~Good for you. No one’s trying to force you to watch it. Have fun spreading hatred instead.

“Oh… and for the record, PLEASE don’t refer to this Bono character as being of the male gender.
Granted, Bono decided not to participate or other wise live as a female, but NO amount of hormone therapy, surgeries, or any manner of hocus-pocus could make Bono into a male. She opted not to “be” female… so I suppose that defines Bono as an “it” with no recognizable gender.”
~Chaz Bono is indeed a male, regardless of what your opinion of the matter is. Calling HIM an “it” is down-right cruel.

“Not being mean, just stating the obvious.”
~Not being mean, just being an obnoxious, prejudiced pratt.

What makes you judge and jury of Chaz Bono, or any other transgendered person’s life? You have no idea how hard life has been for them. For Chaz, the fact that he was born to a hugely famous couple only made it that much harder, as he was already in the spotlight, whether he liked it or not. The old saying of walking a mile in someone’s shoes before you judge them definitely comes to mind. But it’s okay, really…just go back to that glass house of yours and keep throwing stones.

Man… bigotry is such an ugly thing. And so ridiculously pathetic and low. It’s a shame that idiots think that by revealing that they will no longer watch the show that this will, in some way, affect Chaz being on the show. Please get over yourself. So… not only are you a bigot; you’re also a narcissist. What makes you even more pathetic is the fact that we both know you’ll end up watching the show regardless. I truly do feel sorry for you.

Here we are in 2011, caveman times. Put away your i-pads, computers, big screen DIGITAL TVs, cars, cell phones, cameras, flushing toilets, running water, jet skis and scooters. Forget that we have found a cure for polio, Streptococcus B, migraines, hypertension, athlete’s foot, etc. Turn off your refrigerators, cd players, unplug your cell phone charger and even your nightlight. Yes folks, it’s true: while we have made strides in technology and in healthcare, we still cannot educate the homophobic and idiocy of people unwilling to accept others for who they are. I VOTE FOR CHAZ!

    Do you color your hair?
    Do you shave your beard?
    Do you wear make-up?
Have you had plastic surgery or injections?
Have you altered YOUR body in any way to make it look different from its natural state?
If so and you’re complaining about this person identifying themself as something other than what you expect, please shut up….thanks.
