Deadliest Catch Cleans Up At The 2011 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys

September 12, 2011 10:13 AM by Lisa Princ

We already know that Deadliest Catch is one of Discovery Channel‘s channels most popular shows, and last night the show cleaned up at the 2011 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, taking home four awards. What did the popular crab fishing show win? Read on to find out!

Deadliest Catch fans will be thrilled to learn that the show won four awards last night at the 2011 Creative Arts Emmys. The Discovery Channel hit took home awards for Outstanding Reality Program, Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming, Outstanding Picture Editing for Reality Programming, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming. In addition to the four wins, Discovery Channel tied for the most Creative Arts Emmys for a basic cable network, and Deadliest Catch tied for the second highest number of Emmy wins for any program.

The Discovery Channel, which prides itself of the highest quality non-fiction series out there, went on to share: “Deadliest Catch profiles the men who risk everything to work the most dangerous job in the world – crab fishing in the icy, treacherous waters of Alaska’s Bering Sea. Historically a nominee in Nonfiction categories, this year marked the first year Deadliest Catch was entered, nominated in and won the Reality Program category. The series beat out tough competition in the category, including Discovery Channel’s own MYTHBUSTERS, as well as past winner Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Bravo), Antiques Roadshow (PBS), Undercover Boss (CBS) and Hoarders (A&E).

Deadliest Catch’s Emmy winning episode was the emotional “Redemption Day,” which dealt with the death of larger-than-life Captain Phil Harris. Harris suffered a stroke on January 29, 2010 while his boat, the Cornelia Marie, was off-loading crab. Deadliest Catch with Captain Phil’s and his sons’ blessings, documented his battle through surgery and treatment, and ultimately his passing ten days later on February 9.”

SO VERY GLAD ‘DEADLIEST CATCH’ WON SO MANY DESERVED EMMYS!!! IT HAS BEEN FOR YEARS NOW THE ABSOLUTELY BEST REALITY SHOW EVER!!! & I doubt if it will ever be equaled! You just can’t beat the spectacular sea for a co-star! It is REAL, & really dangerous, not just for tv! Over the 1st couple years really became involved emotionally with all the crews & worried for there safty! But have to say I think when Phil died that should have been the last year!! We all realize they will all keep fishing, AS THEY SHOULD! Just think that would have been the best place to end the series. LOL linda
