The Great Food Truck Race Recap: Week Six In Atlanta, Georgia

The sixth week of Great Food Truck Race finds the remaining three teams – Lime, Hodge Podge and Roxy’s – pulling into Atlanta, Georgia. This week, the teams discover how important location really is and one truck gets a much needed boost at the Truck Stop. To find out which two teams will compete in the finale and which team fell short, keep on reading.

Truck stop
The final three teams are challenged with creating a dish using peanuts and peaches. Each team is given a basket filled with items they can use, but they have to find the key ingredients, peanuts and peaches, on their own. They have one hour to create something from scratch. The teams run through Atlanta and buy their main ingredients from local restaurants. Kevin Rathbun, Atlanta restaurateur, judges the dishes and declares Roxy’s as the winner of the peanut and peaches challenge. They are given a golden peach, which is worth $1,000 in their till at the end of the challenge.

The challenge
Hodge Podge secures a great location at Atlantic Station where they find their orders are flying out the window and they have their best day yet. Roxy’s first location is a dud, so they move to midtown. Lime sets up in a location outside an office building that faces two big intersections. After slow sales, Lime decides to drive around looking for a new location. Atlantic Station returns their earlier call telling them they can have Hodge Podge’s spot the next day. When they have little luck fining a new location for that day, they decide to return to their original spot. Meanwhile, Roxy’s find they are ending their day on an upswing with steady sales.

Speed bump
The next day finds the teams in new locations. The Great Food Truck Race host Tyler Florence calls them to deliver the blow that the head chefs are off the trucks. They are being sent on a full day of relaxation, cultural sightseeing and maybe a couple of cocktails. They must leave their cell phones on the trucks so they can’t even communicate with their teams. As the Hodge Podge ladies freak out over the change, they decide to keep their menu simple – fried chicken, pulled pork, fish tacos. Meanwhile, Roxy’s is confident they can pull it off and Lime is ecstatic because they are the only team with two chefs. They feel they’ve been given a huge advantage. As the head chefs are forced to tour the Museum of Art, their teams scramble to feed the masses. Roxy’s has a good selling day, while Lime slows down a bit, and Hodge Podge decides to set up by Lime. They try their signature poaching move and steal some of their customers. The head chefs eventually return from their day of culture to help their teams finish out the challenge.

The teams combined made over $24,000. Tyler tells them all deserve to be there, but one team must make the long lonely drive home. He announces that Hodge Podge wins the Atlanta challenge after pulling in $8,937. It comes down to Roxy’s and Lime Truck. With $8,447 in sales, Lime Truck comes in second place. Despite Roxy’s $l,000 head start, they are sent back to Boston. The finale of The Food Network reality show sees Lime and Hodge Podge pulling into Miami, Florida where their trucks get towed and the teams freak out.
