The X Factor’s Simon Cowell made a bold prediction that American Idol would finally take the Emmy for best Reality Show Competition at the Emmy Awards now that he’s left the show, but did it come true during the ceremony on Sunday night? Not even close — the Emmy went to CBS’ The Amazing Race! Read on for the details…
Simon Cowell is getting ready to launch the US version of The X Factor on Sept. 21 on the Fox network, yet it’s still not stopping him for taking jabs at his former show, American Idol.
During a recent interview with reporters, Simon Cowell was asked about American Idol’s chances at the Emmy Awards in the Reality Show Competition category, to which he replied, “Well I’d find it very amusing that after all these years, the year that I wasn’t on it, it would win the Emmy. I think that would make me laugh, so it probably will.”
Well, Simon Cowell couldn’t have been more wrong.
During an Emmy Awards that saw Charlie Sheen wish his former Two and a Half Men cast luck and Melissa McCarthy take her first win in the Lead Actress category for Mike & Molly, The Amazing Race stood tall in the reality show category.
Deadliest Catch already took home a slew of Emmys at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Jeff Probst took home Outstanding Host, so the only thing left to do was crown The Amazing Race the winner of the Outstanding Reality Show Competition Emmy.
Do you think Simon Cowell will be laughing at his old family’s continued Emmy loss? Will you be tuning into The X Factor?
